About the role

The Opportunity JOB DESCRIPTION At Canadian Natural, our Horizon site ‑ based Reliability Engineering team plays a vital role in maximizing the availability, reliability, and performance of our mine equipment fleets. With a strong focus on health, safety, and the environment, the team identifies and manages asset reliability risks that could impact operations. By applying Lean Six Sigma (LSS), the Four Disciplines of Execution (4DX), and their expertise in loss elimination, risk management, and life cycle asset management, our Reliability Engineers provide sound recommendations to the Mining management team to achieve optimal asset performance.

  • Job location: Fort McMurray, Alberta - Horizon Oil Sands Site
  • Shift Schedule: 8 days on 6 days off, 10-hour shifts (Tuesday – Tuesday)
  • Safety Sensitive Position: Yes

Key Accountabilities

  • Maintain and manage mine asset management processes, ensuring systematic and coordinated control of asset performance and lifecycle expenditures for our mining fleet of haul trucks, mining shovels, and support equipment
  • Work with planning, execution and vendors to gather information on recurring issues and develop solutions and maintenance strategy improvements
  • Identify and manage asset reliability risks with a primary focus on reducing/eliminating production losses, maintenance-repair costs, operational risks
  • Drive continuous improvement initiatives to address systemic equipment issues and maintain a forward‑looking bad-actor list to ensure timely correction
  • Lead root cause analyses and support the development and application of reliability ‑ centered maintenance strategies using facts and data to prevent equipment failures
  • Use Power BI and other data analytic tools to aggregate and identify failure trends in data

What You Bring To The Role

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Mechanical / Industrial / Mining Engineering is preferred
  • APEGA registration in place as a Member in Training, Professional Engineer or other Province/Territory equivalent registration is mandatory
  • Ideally 5 plus years of reliability or maintenance experience in industry, preferably in mine mobile maintenance
  • Proficiency with MS Office and proven experience with Power BI
  • Continuous improvement mindset with a drive to optimize equipment reliability and maintenance strategies
  • Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to derive actionable insights from complex data sets
  • Experience in data analytics and machine learning is an asset
  • Knowledge of equipment maintenance practices is an asset
