Job Description Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Under the guidance of the Project Manager and Manager, we are hiring two (2) Project Coordinators. The Project Coordinator will coordinate with Internal and External Stakeholders to complete the design and construction of the assigned transit infrastructure projects as part of the GO Expansion Project Delivery Team in a safe, timely, consistent, and cost-effective manner.

Start Rate (Non-negotiable): $49.68 per hour.

What will I be doing?

  • Oversee the project work of design, and construction aspects, to ensure compliance with Metrolinx’s Engineering Standards, Building Code and Site Plan Control Requirements and internal user group requirements through all project lifecycle stages.
  • Plan, track and report all capital project expenditures such as contractor invoicing, consultant fees and addenda, purchase orders, construction contracts, change orders.
  • Prepare and submit tender document specifications for construction and consultant contracts for submission to the Procurement Team for tendering. Assists Procurement Team during tendering by providing information to contractors and consultants.
  • Coordinate projects to minimize customer impacts, ensure all internal and external approvals are obtained, and that design and cost dispute resolution and timely completion within established budget and schedule restrictions are adhered to.
  • Participation with on site construction meetings, site reviews, and safety and environmental compliance. Identifying project constraints such as property requirements, utility conflicts and other third-party requirements
  • Participate and ensure compliance with contract document management. Assists the Project management office in ongoing risk reviews and schedule management.
  • Coordinate project changes through the applicable governance processes including the preparation of memos and other required documentation.
  • Ensure project completion and commissioning for handover to the user group.
  • Prepare performance evaluations for consultants and contractors. Also, prepare project post-evaluation reports including project cost analysis.
  • Prepare reports, logs, and presentations to various stakeholders and the management team on a regular basis, working collaboratively to meet internal and external stakeholder requirements.

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Minimum college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of engineering/architecture.
  • Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to the planning, design and construction of transit facilities, interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and co-ordinating contracted engineering projects.
  • Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of civil engineering, architecture and construction.
  • Detailed knowledge of project management including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate procedures and applicable contract legislation.
  • Understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures.
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and negotiation skills, with the ability to work independently and think analytically.
  • Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is considered an asset.
  • Regular site visits are required during working hours and occasional visits during evenings, weekends and/or holidays.
  • A valid Ontario “G” Driver’s Licence is required
