ACADEMIC INTERVENTIONAL RADIOLOGIST - HAMILTON

The Department of Medical Imaging, McMaster University and the Department of Diagnostic Imaging, Hamilton Health Sciences are seeking a full-time radiologist for the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre interventional program, with an anticipated start date of July 2026. Academic rank will be commensurate with the candidate’s qualification and experience.

As a full time faculty member within the Department of Medical Imaging, the successful candidate will promote clinical scholarship and have a strong commitment to excellence in teaching, mentorship and an interest in research. The successful candidate will participate in teaching and supervision of residents within our highly rated Diagnostic Radiology Residency Program and will support and participate in teaching activities in the undergraduate medicine program and other relevant programs. Teaching and supervision of interventional fellows in our McMaster fellowship programs is required.

Applicants must be certified (or eligible for certification) by the Royal College of Physicians and Surgeons of Canada in Diagnostic Radiology (or equivalent) and hold (or be eligible for) an independent license in the Province of Ontario. Successful applicants must have completed specialty fellowship training in interventional radiology.

Hamilton Health Sciences is a large multi-site tertiary centre, providing a full range of interventional radiology services, with a focus on oncology and hepatobiliary IR at the Juravinski Hospital and Cancer Centre site. This includes a busy Transarterial radioembolization (Y90) program, liver ablation (MWA & RFA), renal, soft tissue and bone cryoablation, TIPSS/BATO/BRTO amongst other routine oncology procedures, including a high volume of percutaneous biliary drainage and urology procedures. There is dedicated IR clinic once a week that has been running for over two years. The interventional imaging team works alongside clinical colleagues to deliver optimal evidence-based patient care. The position involves scheduling for daytime interventional work at two tertiary hospital sites, as well as participation in the city-wide (3 site) interventional radiologist on-call schedule at Hamilton Health Sciences, which includes a Level 1 trauma centre. The position also includes some general radiology/body imaging assignments. The successful applicant will be assigned at least 3 dedicated IR sessions a week with a possibility of more assignments due to clinical volumes and vacation/leave coverage.

We run a robust IR fellowship program with four fellows every year and are currently in the process of applying to the Royal College for an IR residency program. The successful applicant will be expected to participate in these training activities in addition to supervising the Radiology residents and Medical students rotating through IR.
