Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care is a 315-bed academic and teaching hospital that provides specialized mental health, addiction and geriatric care. Located on the shores of Georgian Bay, we serve some of the most complex and disadvantaged individuals in Ontario and are the sole provider of high-secure forensic mental health services in the province.
Located at Waypoint Centre for Mental Health Care in Penetanguishene, Ontario, the WRI contributes to the field of mental health by providing strategic leadership on research and academic issues; facilitating innovating science and high quality applied research that aligns with Waypoint priorities; fostering partnerships and research collaborations across Ontario, in Canada and internationally; prioritizing knowledge translation that improves mental health and addictions care; and offering mentorship opportunities for students and trainees in a unique facility.
The Waypoint Research Institute (WRI) is currently seeking a Scientific Writer on a temporary casual basis. The purpose of the position is to advance the success and sustainability of the Waypoint Research Institute by producing high quality research grant applications, working with and providing support to researchers to develop high quality, well-articulated successful research proposals, peer-reviewed abstracts and publications.
Please Note: This position offers a hybrid work environment consisting of in-office and remote work. Office location is 500 Church Street, Penetanguishene, ON, L9M1G3
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Serve as a resource for grant application procedures and best practice for successful funding, including conducting information sessions/workshops pertaining to research proposal development
- Provide writing, review and editing consultation and support to researchers to develop successful research proposals, peer-reviewed abstracts and publications
- Provide project management in the development of funding proposals and oversight to monitor research projects
- Write, review, edit and submit funding proposals in collaboration with internal and external stakeholders
- Incorporate feedback on previous proposals and apply lessons learned to strengthen future grant proposals
- Support the writing of Waypoint Research Institute materials as required.
REQUIREMENTS/QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in a health sciences or field related to language/journalism, policy/political science or relevant combination of education and experience, PhD considered an asset
- Previous experience in a mental health and addictions field preferred
- Demonstrated success in securing extramural funding considered an asset
- Demonstrated knowledge of regulations and processes regarding grant development, writing, facilitation, and administration
- Previous project management experience to initiate and plan funding proposals and monitor deliverables
- Demonstrated knowledge of research design and methodology, including research reporting guidelines to support the development of high quality proposals and publications
- Advanced level computer skills in MS Office and Adobe Professional
- Organizational and time management skills in order to balance multiple priorities and time sensitive projects
- Written and verbal communication skills with emphasis on scientific/technical and plain language required for grant applications, reports, presentations and publications
- Excellent analytical skills to align funding opportunities with strategically significant research projects
- Models and promotes core ethical practice, Waypoint Values, and reflects an optimistic and positive attitude
- Preference for proficiency in French/English language skills
