About the role

The Bike Park Manager and Assistant Grooming Manager is responsible for the year-round lifecycle of the resort’s physical playground. In Summer, you lead the charge in Bike Park construction, and maintenance. In winter, you shift to the world of slope preparation, snowmaking and grooming operations, ensuring the fleet produces a world-class snow surface. You are the bridge between the seasons, managing a high-performance crew and multi-million dollar grooming machinery.

Compensation Information:$62,000 to $67,000 per annum

**Physical Requirement:**Medium; work activities involve handling loads up to 25kg; both in an indoor & outdoor setting.

This job position requires physical presence at the designated location.

Skills you bring with you:

Bike Park Operations:

  • Profound understanding of lift accessed bike park operations, safety and industry best practices
  • Ability to assess bike trail conditions, identify risks and prioritize maintenance and repairs
  • Strong trail building and maintenance skills in a lift-accessed bike park (5+ years’ experience)
  • Understanding of Whistler Trail Standards, IMBA standards and Adaptive Trail Standards
  • Proven ability to safely operate excavators in rough mountain environments
  • Ability to coach and mentor crew members
  • Understanding of budgeting, planning and basic financial management skills
  • Ability to work collaboratively with internal teams and external partners (Events, Cycling BC, SPRTA, etc.)
  • Ability to lead daily safety meetings, knowledge of OH&S requirements and participation in Joint OH&S committees
  • Experience working with contractors to deliver world class bike riding experiences on innovative and creative mountain bike trails (Freeride and Technical) -Preferred candidate will have 3+ years experience building and maintaining trails within a lift accessed Bike Park

Winter Operations:

  • Work closely with the Snowmaking Department to ensure the successful and timely opening of the Race Training Centre as well as meeting opening day targets
  • Work closely with the Grooming Department in the preparation and safe opening of the winter ski slopes
  • Profound understanding of Winter Grooming Best Practices and a demonstrated record of delivering world class grooming surfaces
  • Day to day communication and planning of winter grooming activities with the Grooming Team, including the use of Edge Auditor, SnowSAT, and other snow management tools (SmartSnow) -Preferred candidate will have 5+ years experience operating conventional snowcats, winch cats and a solid understanding of the Nordic Trail network

Primary Responsibilities:

Operational:

  • Staff hiring, training, scheduling and administrative duties (budgeting, planning, OH&S)
  • Identifying areas requiring trail maintenance and prioritizing a schedule to address repairs while communicating any closures to Guest Services and Dispatch
  • Delivering world-class experience in our bike park and on winter slopes, providing guests with a safe and memorable day on the trails
  • Prepare and submit an operational budget for the needs of the bike park

Leadership/Team Enablement:

  • Accountable for all aspects of trail safety and maintenance
  • Provide leadership/coaching/mentoring to the Bike Park Supervisor and other crew members
  • Participation in industry sessions in bike park safety, operations and planning

OH&S:

  • Daily morning meetings which foster an awareness and emphasis of a safe work environment
  • Maintenance of records including daily meetings (SiteDocs) and follow up on any employee injuries
  • Provide a representative from the department to attend monthly OH&S meetings
  • Manage and fulfill all obligations of the Joint OH&S committee relating to workplace injuries
