Job Description

This is a permanent position responsible for coordinating projects as part of CEDA’s Centre of Excellence Project Management Team. This position focuses on supporting the bidding, execution, and closeout of projects within CEDA’s various service lines and technical requirements. This position would also support technical engineering and research & development activities focused on oil and gas production processes and facility maintenance activities. Primary internal customers to this position are Industrial Cleaning and Mechanical service lines as well as Emerging Technologies. This position is expected to manage projects in accordance with best practices laid out in the Project Management Book of Knowledge and is required to be registered or qualified to register as an Engineer-in-Training with APEGA.

This position will require quick integration with a project team preparing to execute work. The successful candidate will be required to integrate themselves into new teams, work independently, and assess and add value to projects from various service lines. Guidance and training will be available from the candidate’s supervisor and individuals who have been successful in the role previously but independent initiative will be required to succeed. There will be numerous physical challenges in the field since work can involve significant physical activity during certain tasks.

This position will be deployed for fieldwork as required; candidate must be based out of Edmonton.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Field work on a project basis
  • Ensure projects are setup and managed in accordance with the company policies and procedures, you’ll support the full life cycle of the project
  • Support all aspects of safety and planning for successful and safe work execution
  • Develop process documents as required for estimating, planning and workflow
  • Responsible for continuous improvement initiatives and tracking
  • Work with the customer(s) on change notices and scope changes
  • Provide overall project cost, schedule, progress measurement, regular reports, and resource requirements
  • Work directly with site leadership, providing support in project controls, administration and logistics
  • Demonstrate an ability to rapidly absorb new information and execute learnings safely and efficiently in the field
  • Implement and execute plans in the field by working as an effective member of an operations team on site
  • Learn independently, and seek advice, guidance and assistance from department leadership
  • Demonstrate a positive constructive attitude as a member of a team, working in adverse and often less than ideal working environments
  • Present solutions to institutional challenges, and positively contribute to implementing those solutions
  • Efficiently and effectively operate in a modern digital work environment using multiple software suites, and computer based planning tools
  • Be willing and able to travel for projects throughout Alberta, and across Canada

Role Specifications:

  • Undergraduate Engineering Degree (preferably Mechanical, Chemical, or Process)

  • 1-2 years of project coordination experience is an asset

  • Experience in a Field EIT role or working in a plant or experience in a MOD Yard or fabrication facility is an asset

  • Registration as or eligibility for enrolment as an EIT with APEGA is preferable

  • Technical background with experience in AutoCAD, Plant 3D or MathCAD would be considered an asset

  • Must be willing and able to travel for projects throughout Alberta, and across Canada

  • Able to provide a negative result on pre-employment drug and alcohol test

  • Valid Class 5 license with no more than 5 demerits is required

  • Comfortable with the use of additional respiratory equipment and air supply; wearing a full face mask (as required when in the field), and maintaining a clean-shaven face to ensure proper mask seal
