Position Overview:
We are seeking a detail-oriented and analytical Garment Costing Engineer to join our team.This role is pivotal in leading the costing process for labor to establish Standard Allowed Minutes (SAM) on various apparel categories, with a focus on ensuring accurate cost projections, optimizing production efficiency, and supporting strategic pricing decisions. Additionally, the role is responsible for preparing a complete and comprehensive New Product Integration (NPI) package to cross-functional departments. The ideal candidate will possess a strong understanding of garment construction, machinery and manufacturing processes within the fashion and apparel industry.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
Cost Analysis & Engineering
- Calculate and analyze labor costs across diverse garment styles from Proto to Reference and Size Sets.
- Break down garment operations in detail to the element level, ensuring precise analysis of each task, motion, and process.
- Perform detailed time studies on Size Sets or Sales Sample Master Production Orders (MPO) to obtain accurate Standard Allowed Minutes (SAM) for use in Production.
- Partner with technical and production teams to assess the cost impact of design and construction modifications resulting from the integration of new fabrics and trims.
NPI Package Management
- Prepare and submit comprehensive NPI packages, ensuring seamless coordination with the Shopfloor Control system for accurate entry of production SAM.
- Collaborate with other manufacturing pillars to align on shared goals for efficiency, productivity, and quality.
- Conduct handover meetings with the production team to ensure smooth execution of the NPI Package before Pre-production sample (PPS) and bulk production.
- Review and evaluate post-PPS and bulk production outcomes to ensure the NPI package file is accurately updated in response to any implemented changes.
Process Optimization & Standardization
- Review sewing methods and recommend improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce costs.
- Identify cost-saving opportunities through material substitutions, process enhancements, and optimized labor allocation.
- Establish standardized methods and processes to streamline workflows and enhance operational performance.
- Support lean manufacturing initiatives through Kaizen submissions.
Documentation & Reporting
- Maintain comprehensive labor costing sheets and databases for all styles and seasonal collections.
- Provide timely and accurate cost reports to relevant stakeholders.
- Work closely with Costing Engineer – Materials to build the detailed cost breakdown of materials and labor.
Systems & Tools
- Contribute to the development and continuous improvement of the GSM app for accurate costing.
- Understand Leadtec application and data queries.
Additional Duties
- Maintain organized records of labor costing files and other NPI-related documentation.
- Perform other related tasks as assigned to support departmental and organizational objectives.
QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Textile Engineering, Apparel Manufacturing, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.
- Minimum 3 years of experience in garment costing, preferably within a manufacturing or sourcing environment.
- Strong knowledge of garment construction, sewing operations, and material consumption.
- Proficiency in Excel, PLM, Shopfloor Control System, GSD or any related costing tools.
- Excellent analytical and communication skills.
