UTSC Management is a world leader in providing business education that is heavily influenced by experiential learning and internationalization. Your opportunity:

Under general direction of the Assistant Director, Operations and Finance, and with guidance from the Strategic Marketing & Communications Lead, the incumbent will play a pivotal role in conceptualizing and supporting functions related to marketing UTSC Management undergraduate degree programs to prospective students. Working in regular consultation with the UTSC Admissions and Student Recruitment area and leveraging a strong equity, diversity, and inclusion (EDI) lens, the role will significantly contribute to creating pathways for equity-deserving students to engage with the UTSC Management community and access the highest level of business education from Canada’s top-ranked university.

Additionally, as a key part of the departmental Student Success Team, the incumbent will be responsible for providing academic advising, developing and delivering academic support programming and performing various administrative functions which facilitate the daily operation of our undergraduate programs and the delivery of undergraduate courses. The incumbent advises students throughout their studies and proactively refers them, if necessary, to other student services on campus.

The Recruitment & Program Advisor is also responsible for interpreting and advising faculty, staff and students on university and program requirements, policies and procedures. In addition, the incumbent will prepare, summarize and interpret data relating to students and programs for the purpose of strategic and course/program planning, instructor allocation and other needs as required. The Recruitment & Program Advisor participates in the program development process. This position is also responsible for developing and delivering various workshops, seminars, presentations, and other outreach initiatives designed to encourage student recruitment, engagement and promote academic success.

Your responsibilities will include:

  • Advising students on academic and/or financial matters by providing options and consequences incorporating personal circumstances impacting academic success and an understanding of an individual's background
  • Providing detailed information on program and/or course eligibility requirements, procedures, policies and deadlines
  • Keeping well-informed on University programs, policies and procedures
  • Keeping well-informed on theories related to equity, diversity and inclusion
  • Conceptualizing, organizing and executing event activities
  • Delivering student recruitment presentations
  • Developing content for marketing and/or promotional materials
  • Updating and maintaining records

Essential Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree or an acceptable equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Minimum of four (4) years of related student advising experience in an academic post-secondary environment.
  • Experience in undergraduate student recruitment, student life, and/or admissions.
  • Experience presenting to diverse groups and advising prospective students.
  • Experience developing and delivering high-quality student academic programming, interpreting and applying University and program policies and procedures required.
  • Proven experience in advising students on course and program selection and planning.
  • Familiarity with issues and trends in student recruitment, student life, and communications.
  • Excellent computer skills, including Microsoft Office (Outlook, PowerPoint, Word, Excel, SharePoint) are required.
  • Demonstrated professional use of social media tools (e.g. LinkedIn, Instagram, YouTube, etc.) to engage audiences with content that is targeted, on brand, and error free.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with a strong ability to build effective relationships with current and future students as well as colleagues and faculty.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills and demonstrated public speaking and presentation skills.
  • Highly resourceful with strong investigative, organizational, conflict resolution and problem-solving skills.
  • Highly developed analytical skills with strong attention to detail and accuracy.
  • Ability to work independently as well as part of a larger team in a fast-paced, service-oriented environment.
  • Tact, judgment, empathy and patience in dealing with students and other stakeholders and in interpreting and applying policies and procedures.
  • Creativity, initiative and ability to work under pressure.
  • Applicants are expected to show evidence of a commitment to equity, diversity, inclusion, and the promotion of a respectful and collegial learning and working environment.

Assets (Nonessential):

  • Experience working with faculty an asset.
  • Familiarity with the undergraduate business school environment preferably in programs such as economics and global/international, the Department of Management and its stakeholders a strong asset.
  • Knowledge of the University of Toronto regulations, practices, programs, and admissions requirements is an asset.
  • Experience with the University’s Student Information System ROSI (Repository of Student Information)/ACORN, Degree Navigator or a similar database system is an asset.
  • Proficiency in creative design software such as Canva Pro an asset.
