Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic

**Location:**Vancouver, BC
**Company:**Van Wasteco Inc.
**Job Type:**Full-Time, Permanent
Wage:$37 – $45 per hour (based on experience)
**Hours:**40 hours per week + overtime as required

About Us:

Van Wasteco Inc. is a leading waste management and recycling company in Vancouver, BC, dedicated to environmental sustainability and operational excellence. We are seeking a skilledHeavy-Duty Equipment Mechanicto maintain and repair our fleet of industrial vehicles and heavy equipment, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Inspect, maintain, troubleshoot, and repair heavy-duty vehicles and equipment, including trucks, loaders, and forklifts
  • Perform preventive and corrective maintenance on diesel engines, hydraulic, and pneumatic systems
  • Diagnose mechanical and electrical faults, and implement effective solutions
  • Read and interpret technical manuals, schematics, and diagrams
  • Maintain accurate maintenance and repair records, and monitor parts inventory
  • Work collaboratively with operations and production teams to minimize downtime
  • Ensure compliance with workplace safety procedures, includinglockout/tagout (LOTO)

Qualifications & Requirements:

  • Completion of secondary school required
  • Completion of a Heavy-Duty Equipment Mechanic apprenticeship or minimum 3–5 years of relevant experience
  • Strong knowledge of diesel engines, hydraulic systems, and heavy machinery
  • Experience working with industrial trucks, forklifts, and other mobile equipment
  • Physically capable of handling heavy equipment in a workshop and field environment
  • Excellent troubleshooting and problem-solving skills

Preferred Skills:

  • Welding and fabrication skills (asset)
  • Forklift and heavy equipment certification
  • Experience in waste management or industrial operations

Work Conditions:

  • Physically demanding role, involving lifting, bending, and standing
  • Exposure to noise, dust, grease, and heavy machinery
  • Overtime and weekend work may be required
