Position Summary

A major area that these roles will focus on is communications and research both within and outside the organization, regarding sustainability strategies and activities of the Calgary Stampede. This work will include writing and creating stories, written content and website material to showcase Calgary Stampede sustainability work. The student will help to design sustainability messaging, posters and other communications materials to engage staff and external stakeholders in sustainability. In addition work will include research into how to integrate more sustainable actions in our organization to help meet growing stakeholder expectations.

During Stampede Time, this role will engage with a variety of stakeholders including exhibitors, Howdy Booth teams, waste management teams and others around various sustainability activities.

We are hiring two positions.

Responsibilities

Key responsibilities of the Administrative Assistant include:

  • Help to audit and evaluate various sustainability initiatives such as bike parking, sponsorship activities and more.

  • Support the Yellow Trout Program through marking all storm drains and communicating the program with exhibitors.
  • Support the food donation activities that are ongoing through and after Stampede Time, as needed.
  • Participate in ongoing operational meetings with other teams and will support the Sustainability team as needed.
  • Produce a final report on Stampede Time waste audit findings and highlights, in addition to participation in drafting and completing various published materials that will guide visitors to all the sustainable aspects of the Calgary Stampede assets.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will be proactive, optimistic and have worked in a dynamic environment where they have experience delivering on multiple priorities and will hold the following qualifications:

  • A minimum of 2 years of successfully completed university with a focus on science, environment, engineering, or another related topic.

This position is partially funded by the Government of Canada under the Canada Summer Jobs program. To qualify, participants must be:

(a) between 15 and 30 years of age (inclusive) at the start of employment;
(b) a Canadian Citizen, permanent resident, or person on whom refugee protection has been conferred under the Immigration and Refugee Protection Act*; and
(c) legally entitled to work according to the relevant provincial / territorial legislation and regulations.

  • International students are not eligible. Recent immigrants are eligible if they are Canadian Citizens or permanent residents.
