#Position Summary
Wabano is seeking a dedicated and compassionateLife Skills Facilitatorto join our team. This role is ideal for someone who is passionate about cooking, community connection, and supporting individuals to build everyday life skills.
The Facilitator will lead community kitchen programs, support participants in learning practical cooking and budgeting skills, and help create a welcoming, culturally safe space. This role also includes teaching menu planning using accessible ingredients (including food bank items), promoting food security, and supporting overall wellbeing.
#Key Responsibilities
- Lead and support community kitchen programs, including group cooking sessions and workshops
- Teach practical life skills such as meal planning, budgeting, grocery shopping, and cooking with low-cost or food bank ingredients
- Prepare meals for programs, events, and outreach in collaboration with the team
- Create simple, nutritious, and culturally relevant menus based on seasonal and available foods
- Maintain a clean, safe, and organized kitchen in accordance with food safety standards
- Support participants in building confidence and independence in the kitchen
- Foster a warm, inclusive, and respectful environment for all participants, Elders, and community members
- Manage kitchen inventory, including ordering, receiving, and proper food storage
- Adapt recipes and programming to meet dietary needs, cultural preferences, and available resources
- Support and mentor volunteers and participants during kitchen activities
- Contribute to community engagement and food security initiatives
#Qualifications:
- Experience facilitating workshops or group programming
- Experience in cooking (community, non-profit, or high-volume kitchens preferred)
- Strong understanding of basic nutrition and affordable meal preparation
- Experience teaching or supporting others in developing life skills (formal or informal)
- Ability to work respectfully with diverse communities and lived experiences
- Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of Indigenous food practices and land-based teachings
- Experience working in community-based or non-profit settings
- Commitment to cultural safety, food security, and community wellbeing
- Food Safety Certification (or willingness to obtain)
- Ability to lift up to 40 lbs and stand for extended periods

#Salary:
Range $55,000 – $60,000 per year + Benefits
