Position Title: Technical Writer
Reports To: Manager, Operational Planning, Support and Communications
Department: Individual Wealth
Term: Permanent Full-Tim
Work Arrangements: This is a hybrid role. You will work in our office in Waterloo, ON a minimum of two (2) assigned, consecutive days every other week, plus a fifth (5th) assigned day per month. You are welcome to work from the office more than the minimum requirement and there may be some roles that are required to work in our office more than the minimum requirement.

As a Technical Writer, you will ensure Equitable’s most complex information in our contracts, statements, illustrations outputs and other technical documentation is accessible and understandable to clients. You are a key member of the Client Communications team. You’re a strong communicator who transforms complex technical details into engaging and accessible content. You have a knack for taking intricate information and making it understandable and relatable to a broad audience. Your ability to build trust and collaborate effectively with subject matter experts ensures that our documentation is accurate, comprehensive, and user-friendly. What you will be doing:
- Translate the most complex technical information into clear, concise, and user-friendly content.
- Have a technical understanding of Equitable’s Individual Life products and processes.
- Develop and maintain life and critical illness insurance documentation, including contracts, statements, illustrations reports, forms, user guides, FAQs and training materials.
- Manage the writing projects that you are assigned.
- Collaborate with subject matter experts to gather information and ensure accuracy.
- Edit and proofread content to ensure clarity, consistency and quality using brand style, tone and voice guidelines.
- Work closely with the client communications team to align content with company standards and client needs and provide direction on supporting content such as video scripts, website content and more.
- Stay updated on industry trends and best practices in technical writing for life and critical illness insurance.
- Align to all content governance systems, workflows, and standards.
- Coordinate copy translation, approval documentation and final delivery of content.
- Cooperate at both strategic and operational levels with Product, Design, Operations, Client Impact, Brand and IT team.
- Develop the client communications practice, building innovative and effective guidelines, best practices and tools.
- Work with our IT partners on producing, mapping and maintaining variable, dynamic and static content on contracts, statements and illustration report outputs.
- Work collaboratively with field teams, operations teams and CAX researchers to shape and validate your work.
- Work with Legal and Compliance to ensure our communications are appropriately and responsibly launched.
- Change context quickly and easily, working with various products and teams
What you will bring:
- Bachelor’s degree in English, Communications, Technical Writing, or a related field.
- Proven experience as a Technical Writer, preferably in the insurance or financial services industry.
- Strong ability to simplify complex information and present it in plain language.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills.
- Familiarity with life and critical illness insurance products and terminology, as well as regulatory requirements in the insurance industry.
- Proficiency in using documentation tools and software such as Adobe Acrobat and Microsoft 360 apps and services such as SharePoint.
- Experience with content management systems (CMS).
- Certification in technical writing or related areas.
