POSITION SUMMARY***:***
Utilizing proprietary software and equipment the Armadillo Tracking Technician is responsible for monitoring the location of pipeline inspection tools as they move through our client’s pipeline infrastructure. The Armadillo Tracking Technician is also responsible for coordinating with client representatives to ensure the safe and successful completion of their pipeline inspection programs.
This role is on an on‑call, project‑based schedule and does not follow set working hours. Depending on operational requirements, work may occur outside regular business hours, including evenings, nights, weekends, and statutory holidays. Shifts are 12 hours in length.
WHAT YOU’RE RESPONSIBLE FOR:
- Closely monitor the progress of pipeline inspection tools.
- Verify the tool location, watch/assess visual signals as the tool travels through the pipeline and proactively address any issues.
- As required, calculate the speed of the tool and monitor the progress to anticipate/confirm appropriate travelling speed.
- Address all issues promptly and troubleshoot/problem-solve as needed. This includes addressing issues with the tracking software program.
- Ensure a clear, effective and proactive communication of concerns to the Field Technician, Project Manager or client as appropriate.
- Verify and confirm inspection completion as required.
- Ensure a high level of client support and superior service delivery.
- Provide clients with tool progress updates in accordance with client specifications.
- Ensure a clear and effective communication and timely response to client queries/requests.
- Keep the Armadillo Tracking Supervisor apprised on all potential client service issues.
- Oversee power management of the field deployed equipment (remote boxes).
- Monitor the battery levels of the remote boxes - determine the appropriate power levels and pause power as needed to conserve battery life.
- Proactively problem-solve to address any issues and notify the Field Technician/Project Manager or client as appropriate.
- Manage inspection data.
- Collect and review data and identify discrepancies or missing information.
- Liaise with Field Technicians, Equipment Coordinator, Tracking Team Coordinator, Project Manager, etc. as needed to ensure comprehensive inspection data is obtained and any discrepancies are addressed promptly. Address any non-compliance issues with the Armadillo Tracking Supervisor.
- Download data from the remote tracking boxes, collect and store data on server. Delete data from AGM unit once an effective download has been confirmed. Return boxes to the equipment room as appropriate.
- Compile received post run data and forward on to Integrity Division as required for final review
- Assist other team members as required with various tasks.
- Other duties may be assigned as deemed appropriate.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Education and/or Experience: High School Diploma or equivalent. Related post-secondary education would be an asset. 2 years of previous experience in a customer support role, control center, or similar work environment. Previous experience working with a GPS system would be an asset.
- Language Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills.
Other Skills & Abilities
- Personal Attributes: Well-developed organizational and time management skills. Ability to work in a self-directed manner, comfortable taking initiative, multitasking, and working under pressure. Must have proven ability to work in a focused and alert capacity. Ability to assess, analyze and problem-solve situations.
- Computer-Based: Intermediate Microsoft Office Applications (Word, Excel, Outlook) and PC Skills.
