Job Responsibilities:
Lead Training & Development
- Guide new screeners through online training modules and quizzes.
- Provide consultation to IHP hearing screeners to address questions or concerns related to hearing screening activities and the protocol
- Conduct in-person observation and competency assessments using provincial checklists.
- Provide retraining for screeners returning after extended leave.
Ensure Quality & Compliance
- Oversee calibration and maintenance of hearing screening equipment.
- Conduct audits of screening units and screener performance to ensure adherence to provincial protocols.
- Prepare audit reports and collaborate with screeners to improve outcomes.
Support Regional Operations
- Act as a resource for troubleshooting equipment and protocol questions.
- Liaise with the Designated Training Centre and participate in quarterly Community of Practice meetings.
- Collaborate with program leadership and administrative staff for scheduling and logistics.
- Provide consultation for scheduling hearing screenings, which includes booking community locations and managing scheduling within the IHP region, in collaboration with administrative staff within the IHP region.
- Conduct regular hearing screenings within the IHP to achieve the appropriate Regional Trainer criteria.
- Manages treatment spaces and inventory of screening materials.
Infant Hearing Screening
- Perform community-based infant hearing screenings on a casual, on-call basis across Ottawa (may include short-notice shifts).
- Use ADPOAE and AABR technology to conduct screenings following Ministry protocols and quality standards.
- Using pre-determined scripts, communicate screening steps, results, and next steps to families with clarity and empathy.
- Maintain accurate records, complete forms, and update electronic referrals in collaboration with Newborn Screening Ontario.
- Manage screening materials and treatment space effectively.
- Participate in Continuous Quality Improvement initiatives for the Infant Hearing Program.
Maintain Clinical Standards
- Uphold infection control, privacy, and confidentiality policies.
- Ensure accurate documentation and timely reporting to provincial systems.
Qualifications:
- Communicative Disorders Assistant certificate or post-graduate program with emphasis on hearing health (e.g. Hearing aid technician) is essential.
- Strong aptitude for learning technical processes and protocols quickly.
- Excellent communication and teaching skills for training adult learners.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational and problem-solving abilities.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a regional team.
- Proficiency with technology and willingness to troubleshoot equipment.
- Valid driver’s license and access to a reliable vehicle (frequent weekly travel within region required). Mileage reimbursement will be provided.
- Vulnerable Sector Check required.
Preferred Assets:
- Experience in healthcare, early childhood programs, or technical training roles.
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory role.
- Familiarity with quality assurance processes.
- Bilingual (English/French).

Founded by community members in 1979, we are one of about 60 non-profit community health centers across Ontario. We are run by a volunteer Board of Directors comprised of 12 community members elected at our annual meeting.

In 1979 we opened our doors with 4 staff. Today, we have over 347 full and part time employees serving our local community and over 400 volunteers.
