Summary

Potential Place Society in Calgary, Alberta is seeking a Mental Health Generalist – Summer Student Position.for its accredited psycho-social rehabilitation services for adults living with mental illness. Our model emphasizes creation of a therapeutic environment in which adults with mental health diagnoses form relationships, engage in purposeful work-oriented activities, and participate fully in an inclusive and accepting environment.

We are seeking a dynamic and innovative Mental Health Generalist who has a strong belief in strengths-based approaches to engagement and recovery. Candidates must have a passion for excellence and thrive in a community setting where relationship-building is a priority and multi-tasking is the norm. Potential Place is accredited under Clubhouse international, an evidence-based model for psycho-social rehabilitation known to make significant positive impacts in the lives of people living with severe and chronic mental illnesses. This position has a focus on Generalist duties and the social and recreational needs of our members. We are looking for someone who can help to champion the day-to-day functions of the organization as well as to encourage having fun to balance life.

This position works days, evenings, and Saturday shifts weekly as needed.

Generalist Responsibilities:

  • Support and help to create a supportive therapeutic environment which promotes recovery and rehabilitation for our Clubhouse members
  • Work side-by-side with Clubhouse members to support core Clubhouse operations
  • Generate member engagement in the work-ordered d
  • Assume a leadership role in ensuring positive outcomes in members’ lives including offering support in multiple areas of functioning and healthy living
  • Help members to identify and use community resources that promote their well-being, independence, satisfaction, and self-sufficiency
  • Maintain accurate and confidential client records
  • Compile statistics and complete data reports

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s Degree (In process) in a human services field
  • At least 2 years’ experience in supporting adults with serious mental health needs. Equivalencies will be considered.

Requirements:

  • Class 5 Driver's License with a clean driving record
  • Recent Criminal Record Check with vulnerable sector

Through our structured work-ordered day we utilize the talents and abilities of members working side-by-side with staff to run the operations of our Clubhouse. We work to maintain a vibrant community of individuals seeking to overcome barriers presented by mental illness. Through participation, personal development, and individual empowerment, we give people the tools they need to create a sustainable, fulfilling lifestyle at work and at home.

We seek out employment opportunities for our members through initiatives like our Employment Program* and provide ongoing support, coaching, and mentorship to our members.

Potential Place advocates for housing for our members. In addition we have two small apartment buildings that house 25 members who live independently.

The YAOP (Young Adults of Potential) provides the opportunity for peer to peer engagement between young adults transitioning from youth programs into adult programming. The age range of our young adults are from 18 to 32 years.
