Technologist, Engineering
position working out of
Edmonton, AB
.
As the Engineering Technologist in EPCOR Distribution, you apply your technical skills and experience in the commissioning and field troubleshooting of Distribution Automation (DA) / SCADA assets. You are also accountable for assisting in the preparation of detailed designs for overhead and underground distribution systems up to 25kV. You use your understanding of
how-to
commission, perform maintenance and troubleshooting on distribution SCADA devices
to ensure everything is running efficiently.
What you’d be responsible for
-
Completing detailed designs for overhead and underground projects such as 5kV, 15kV and 25kV primary line rebuilds, relocations and extensions, and primary line voltage conversions including the installation and replacement of single and three phase primary line equipment.

Assist
ing
in
commissioning
and maintenance
of Distribution Automation assets and field troubleshooting support for Distribution
Automation/
SCADA devices
under the supervision of the Senior DA engineer and/or technologist
.

Assisting in
preparing commissioning and maintenance work packages as well as
in r
eview
ing
testing documentation
such as relay test files during commissioning
for sign off
.

Preparing design and construction packages for Distribution design projects using required software including Electric Office
, SAG10,
SPIDAcalc
and IVARA.
-
Performing field visits to ensure design standards are met and are in compliance with the Alberta Electrical Utility Code, the Canadian Electrical Code, and EPCOR Distribution Standards.

Obtaining all required permitting and approvals necessary for construction including easement, Ministerial Consent, Railway Crossing, Utility Line Assignment (ULA), pipeline crossing/proximity agreements etc.

Specifying, reviewing and marking for changes detailed structural or electrical drawings including schematics, profiles, site drawings, circuit layouts, cadastral plans, etc.

Performing engineering calculations such as wire sag, tension and swing, pole selection based on calculated loadings and cable pulling.

Ensuring all designs are in compliance the Alberta Electrical Utility Code, the Canadian Electrical Code, and EPCOR Distribution Standards.

Diploma in Electrical Engineering Technology, from a recognized technical
institute is
required

Registered or eligibility
for registration as a Technologist with A.S.E.T.

Minimum of 4
years of directly related fie
ld
electrical field commissioning
experience, preferably in a d
istribution electric utility
-
Broad knowledge of industry safety practices and familiarity with applicable safety regulations
-
Demonstrable understanding of electrical
aerial
and underground principles.

Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite
and IVARA
-
Experience with SAG10,
SPIDAcalc
,
and
various relay and test equipment
softwares
-
Familiarity with remote switches, monitors and relays used in power systems.
-
Valid Alberta Driver's License, with no more than 6 demerits. A Driver abstract will be required
-
Strong analytical and problem-solving skills
-
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with the ability to convey complex technical information clearly
-
Knowledge of electrical field maintenance and acceptance testing procedures
