Graphic Designer/Illustrator
Top Benefits
About the role
We’re looking for an enthusiastic designer and illustrator who seeks inspiration everywhere and can help us level up our work with one or more parallel skills (e.g. pattern making, brush making, mastery of textures, certificate in accessibility, second language, web design skills, font making experience, etc.).
Traits
- You pride yourself on excellent communication. You use appropriate channels for the situation at hand, add professional humour as called for, type quickly, and speak with confidence and humility. You respond to messages thoroughly and in a timely manner.
- You are open to feedback from the team and clients because you know that everybody is after the same thing: deliverables that create results for the client.
- You love the craft. You are always looking to improve, both in your ability to ideate and use the software. You express an enthusiasm for design as a communication device and drive to exceed expectations.
- You nerd out over an organized workflow. Your friends would vote you the most organized person in the room. You are willing to adopt new systems of work as required (ie. time tracking tools, research methods, naming conventions, etc.) because you know it will dial things in for the company and your job.
- You practically gamify your work by challenging yourself to deliver to the highest possible quality within the allotted time. Getting faster and better gets you stoked.
- You are passionate about using InDesign (OK, and the rest of the creative suite), and recognize that it’s pretty much the best software ever. You know the ins and outs of master pages, object styles, paragraph styles, character styles and table/cell styles… and you keep those styles named in a logical way and organized into folders as needed.
Tasks
- Own your deliverables, while keeping the team informed
- Mentor and teach your colleagues skills you may possess and they do not
- Design and edit documents, powerpoints, etc, as requested by management and/or the clients
- Illustrate scenes, figures, backgrounds, textures and patterns to styles called for by the creative brief
- Be detail oriented, double check all of your work
- Use industry standard software from the Adobe Creative Suite
- Learn any new software as required by management
- Research inspiration as needed
- Find and edit royalty free photographs, including close-cropping and coming up with cool filters and image treatments
