GENERAL PURPOSE OF THIS JOB (Summary)
In coordination with the Design Project Leader, and in collaboration with the Engineer of Record and other stakeholders, the Senior Designer develops designs by conceptualizing, creating, revising and finalizing "Best For Project" drawings of complex permanent mine facility infrastructure and temporary sinking gear.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
HEALTH AND SAFETY
- Work in compliance with all Health and Safety rules and regulations for Cementation.
- Be aware of any health and safety hazards or infractions and report the same to the Health and Safety Department.
- Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met by the appropriate design and use of technology.
- Participate in department safety huddles and incident imaging
GENERAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

- Design and drafting for permanent and temporary works related to the construction of underground mine shafts, facilities and infrastructure.
- Design and drafting for permanent and temporary works related to the construction of underground mine shafts, facilities and infrastructure.
- Create preliminary drawings and rough layouts or sketches
- Collaborate with Project Services and Operations to produce "Best For Project" designs that are safe, reflect the client's operability requirements first, and are constructible.
- To produce a deliverable that is on time, on budget and has the correct scope in accordance with the project requirements.
- Produce drawings that effectively and simply communicate the design, that comply with Cementation Engineering Standards and conform to job specifications with respect to clearances, tolerances and applicable codes
- Collaborate with the team lead, project manager and project engineer to develop design criteria and drawing layouts.
- Assist the Business Development Group in support of tendering work, including the production of conceptual drawings and quantity take-offs.
- Review and mark-up drawings for drafting and presentation purposes
- Assist the Cementation Operations group in the tendering of work, including the production of conceptual drawings, quantity take-offs and estimates
- Ensure all applicable safety codes and regulations are met by the appropriate design and use of technology.
- Design of buildings and equipment which incorporate client operability and maintenance requirements.
- Provide Clients and the Operations Group with engineering solutions in a timely, efficient and cost-effective manner.
- Design and drafting for mine development, related infrastructure and equipment for clients and Cementation Operations.
- Development of design drawings consisting of, but not limited to, site plans, general arrangements, plans and elevations for surface and underground structures, mechanical installations, equipment, concrete installations, underground development, mine shafts and related mine infrastructure.
- Technical mentoring of drafters and designers on engineering projects under the direction of the engineer of record.
- Maintain all office systems relating to the production of drawings for engineering projects
- Source out information and consult with site personnel and other departmental personnel when required to gain knowledge and expertise to improve or revise designs.
- Check for dimensional accuracy and fit-up of engineering designs.
- Check drawings for compliance with company and governmental health and safety guidelines and regulations.
- Develop positive client relationships
- Assess project budgetary and schedule status and line up resources to ensure goals (project targets) are met
- Advise and provide additional support to the site/client
- Identify risks and opportunities to optimize the scope, schedule and cost of the project
- Collaborate with third party and/or multi-discipline engineering team(s) to ensure a cohesive product
- Research methodologies for implementation
- Mentor and coach junior staff on the Engineering project team
- Participate in project management meetings
- Adhere to the company/departmental procedures in the development of drawings.
- Liaise, collaborate, consult, and gather information from the site and other departments.
- Investigate, troubleshoot, and recommend solutions for site and client concerns and suggestions.
- Research previous drawings to ensure efficiency and a consistent product.
- Participate in group meetings and discussions, internal and site.
- Generate technical information with minimal guidance and supervision
- Develop finished drawings from general conceptual information and design notes
- Provide project drafting and be accountable for the schedule and efficiency
- Be accountable for drawing production and quality
- Work independently on projects assigned by Design Project Lead or Lead Designer/Drafter.
- Show a good working knowledge and understanding of plot plans, P&IDs, PFDs, isometrics, GAs and line lists.
- Work within a project team to coordinate and complete designs.
- Provide input to man-hour estimates and schedules as required.
- Travel to the field to collect information for design development or for as-built.
- Review project standards and specifications, design instructions, plot plans and flow diagrams.
- Communicate and interface with the project engineering team.
- Support in the identification of deviations to job scope, estimation of changes and notices.
- Work with designers in other disciplines to coordinate project designs.
- Set up Project Reviews as per PDS requirements
- Participate in Project Reviews
- Understand and follow the guidelines from the Cementation Standards and Procedures Manual.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE
- Secondary School Diploma
- Applicable Post Secondary Technician or Technology Diploma
- Engineering Degree considered an asset
- Previous experience in Heavy Construction, Mining or Fabrication
- Minimum 12 years experience in Drafting and Design
- OACETT Registration is considered an asset
