About the role

Job Description Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster, and easier. Metrolinx is an agency of the Government of Ontario.

Our Rail Fleet Maintenance Management. RFMM Office is looking for a Co-op Student to assist with the planning, implementation, and monitoring of GO Transit rail services. The CO-OP Students will work with internal stakeholders to provide analytical support in the completion of required tasks and deliverables.

What will I be doing?

  • Support rail fleet performance management and tracking of continuous improvement initiatives
  • Assist in tracking incidents, evidence collection, failure reviews, and reconciliation activities
  • Maintain and update records related to Root Cause Analysis (RCA), FRACAS, and Field Modification Instructions (FMI)
  • Assist in objective reviews of train equipment failures and reconciliation activities, reviews and reconciliation to support contract administration activities
  • Help consolidate multi-source failure data and maintain structured documentation repositories
  • Support interface and coordination with multidisciplinary teams to track corrective action plans
  • Assist in monitoring execution status of improvement initiatives and follow-up action.
  • Certain travel and/or field work (e.g. visits to maintenance facilities, onboard rail equipment inspections, and supporting evidence collection on locomotives/coaches during failure investigations) or visits to other Rail Maintenance facilities) may occasionally be required

What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?

  • Must be attending school full-time and returning to an academic institution
  • Must be at least 15 years of age before starting employment
  • Enrolled in (Engineering, Transportation, Data Analytics, or related technical programs) at a post-secondary institution
  • Interest in rail transportation and transit/operational planning is a strong asset
  • Interest in reliability engineering, asset performance monitoring or rail fleet operations is a strong asset
  • Exposure to fleet performance management, reliability processes, and maintenance governance.
  • A willingness to learn while being exposed to all aspects of Operational Planning & Service Design
  • Previous experience working within a business environment is preferred
  • Strong safety aptitude
  • Strong written, oral communication and interpersonal skills are required
  • Strong presentation and communication skills to support reporting insights to technical and leadership stakeholders.
  • Competence in software such as Microsoft Office, Power BI
  • Excellent written and verbal communications skills
  • Ability to co-operate and assist other co-workers with various projects
