About this Opportunity

Facilities Management’s customers include Deans, departments, faculty, staff and students. The department’s branches work together as a team to ensure a high standard of customer service delivery, as well as the provision of capital projects, and effective, efficient and safe performance for the operation and maintenance of campus buildings.

Job Summary

Performs tradesperson level skilled work on building electrical maintenance and or new installation work as assigned by supervisor Completes time keeping and recording keeping work associated with the assigned tasks. Maintains safe working conditions. Troubleshoots operating problems and electrical failures related to building electrical systems. Prepares for project work in the assigned areas of responsibility. Use typical tools machinery, and equipment related to the trade. Operates a light truck, Gators, or other similar vehicles.

Job Requirements

Skills:

  • Excellent journey person level electrical trades skills.
  • Strong customer service focus
  • Effective basic computing and keyboard use.
  • Able to plan and organize work.
  • Able to communicate effectively with faculty, staff and outside agencies and business partners.
  • Ability to maintain effective working relationships with co-workers.
  • Willingness to work any recognized shift including weekends.
  • The competencies represent the skills, knowledge and behaviours required to advance the initiatives of the unit/department and the university. As a staff member, this role should demonstrate UVic's Core Competencies which include Personal Effectiveness, Commitment to Quality, Navigating Change, Communication, Building Equitable Relationships, Teamwork, Service Focus, and University Community.

Specialized Knowledge/Education:

  • Grade 12 (or equivalency)
  • BC or interprovincial Red Seal electrical trades qualification.
  • Safety training and knowledge of applicable codes and standards, and Work Safe BC regulations.
  • Valid BC Class 5 driver's license.

Experience:

  • Minimum of four years' experience in the electrical trade as a journeyperson.
  • Tradesman level competence with fire alarm, and electrical metering monitoring systems.
  • Planning, organizing and monitoring day-to-day work activities and standards in a shop and/or plant environment.
  • Familiarity with use of a computerized maintenance management work order system.
