Position Overview: The Arts and Culture Coordinator, Sector Support, is responsible for providing support to external community event applicants and film production groups, with an eye to building capacity within arts and cultural groups, fostering growth and sustainability of Canmore’s creative and cultural sectors. This position will work with Town departments and interest holders to ensure event requirements are met and event applications are complete. The coordinator conducts site walk-throughs, organizes debriefing sessions to improve event capabilities and supports the capacity building of the creative and cultural sectors through granting, outreach, education, and partnerships. This role is actively involved in supporting Town of Canmore event planning and delivery. You will work closely with a variety of teams across the organization to provide seamless and exceptional experiences to all residents and interest-holders, with the goal to enhance citizens’ quality of life and create a healthy, sustainable, and inclusive community.
Core Accountabilities:
- Is generally knowledgeable about all Town of Canmore services.
- Supports the full cycle of event permitting, including inquiries, bookings, contract development, debriefing and invoicing
- Conduct a detailed review of all community event applications and permitting to ensure that application requirements are met, providing client support and feedback
- Liaise with Town departments, government agencies, volunteers, public utilities, consultants, and contractors with the goal of coordinating the operational details of bookings to finalize town permitting of applications
- Send out calls for event applications, collate submissions and organize them for presentation to and evaluation by the Community Event Committee
- Review and update the Events Permitting application process, including working with communications team to improve the website for better user experience and efficiency
- Anticipates sensitive issues and plans an appropriate strategy
- Maintain confidentiality of all client information
- Contribute to the planning and delivery of department programs and events
- Oversee the successful operation of the Mountain Market and participate in the evaluation and selection of market vendors during selection processes
Education & Qualifications:

Post-secondary education in arts administration, cultural planning, community development or festival and event management, or other related discipline pertinent to job functions combined with three years relevant sector experience in positions of similar responsibility – preferred
Experience:
-
Experience in program development, program improvement and operational management specific to the cultural, festival, and event sectors – required

Proven organizational skills, detail orientation, ability to meet deadlines and adapt to constantly changing priorities – required

Successful track record in building sector competency through grants, education, and mentorship programs – required
-
Demonstrated ability to deal effectively and collaboratively with business, cultural sector, festival, and event sector, community interest holders, peers, and the general public – required

Ability to integrate access, equity, and diversity approaches into program planning and content development – required

Experience working in or with municipalities – asset
-
Broad knowledge of the regulatory framework under which festivals and events are delivered – asset

Strong working knowledge of process and performance measures and methodologies –asset

Knowledge of community events, arts, cultural activities, and resources in the Bow Valley – asset

Must possess thorough knowledge of the current suite of Microsoft productivity tools, including but not limited to PowerPoint, Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams – required

Knowledge of SharePoint – asset

Must be able to work evenings and weekends on occasion – required
Salary & Benefits:

Pay Range - $37.26 to $41.65 per hour. Compensation will be calculated based on the successful candidate’s related work experience and education
