Your Opportunity
Business Center (BC) 1235 is currently seeking a Project Financial Lead (PFL). The PFL will be responsible for supporting project managers with compliance of Stantec corporate and business-line specific project management (PM) practices within BC 1235. Please note this is a termed position of 4 years.
The PFL will report and be accountable to the 1235 BC Operations Leader (BCOL) and also support the Project Management Lead (PML) for Western Canada. The PFL will be responsible for coaching project managers by growing their PM capabilities and regularly monitoring and reporting on the financials of projects in the BC. The PFL will support the BC in compliance to Stantec’s standards of project delivery, risk management, budgeting and earned value management.

Your Key Responsibilities
Project Management & Execution
- In collaboration with BC Leadership and the Financial Manager, conduct project financial follow up with project managers and project controls personnel to monitor projects’ unbilled, accounts receivable and forecasts (using Integrated Project Management (IPM) & Project Update Review Service(PURS)) as well as completing the Net Revenue Forecasting (NRF) Tool. There will be a strong focus on this responsibility.
- Provide PMs with earned value management support when needed.
- Actively and positively advocate for compliance with Stantec practices (i.e. Pipeline, project set-up, change management, HSSE, quality and record keeping), and following the Project Management Framework.
- Coordinate with the BCOL, the PML and PMs and project sponsors to implement corrective actions for distressed projects, adapt and apply procedures to address problem situations.
People
- Support emerging PMs within the BC to access and complete the necessary training to become an approved PM.
- Support the BCOL with updating and maintaining the PM Prequalification listing in consultation with the BCOL and PML.
- Collaborate with BC leadership and Team Leads to retain, mentor, and coach project managers. Some project managers within the BC may report to and will be accountable to the PFL.
- Support the PML in training sessions and workshops, e.g. Risk and Contract management, Oracle dashboard, IPM and PURS, change management and other critical activities.
- Lead monthly PM calls that build the BC 1235 PM community with recurring agenda items and focused topics that may include guest speakers.
- Provide formal and informal feedback on individual performance of project managers.
Individual Contributor
- Perform billable work as a PM and/or Project Independent Reviewer (PIR) for projects, a project sponsor or fulfill another function as appropriate based on experience, with a utilization target of 65%.
- Maintain and enhance our reputation with clients, approval agencies and industry professionals as an outstanding service provider.
Your Capabilities and Credentials
- Recent experience managing projects, including the development of scope, schedule, and budget, and the subsequent monitoring of cost and schedule. Preference will be for candidates with experience managing high value projects.
- Strong experience in organizing, planning, and executing projects from pursuit through closeout, involving internal personnel, contractors, and vendors.
- Understanding of Stantec financial methods, procedures, and policies, particularly earned value management.
- Understanding of Stantec PM Framework and Project Risk Review Practice.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills; strong interpersonal skills to effectively work and collaborate with BC project managers.
- Problem-solving skills, including the ability to identify when a project is in trouble (e.g., deviations from baseline scope, schedule, or budget) and provide guidance on mitigation measures or corrective action to address the problem.
- Ability to travel to other Stantec offices within the BC – preference may be given to candidates who are located within the BC.
- Ability to advocate for change and deliver positive impact through influence.
- Passion for excellence, continuous improvement, and professional PM, as well as demonstrated ability to create, foster and lead a team.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in business or a technical discipline with a minimum of 10 years of relevant experience.
- Familiarity with Stantec Environmental Services Line service offerings and client base is preferred.
- Project Management Professional (PMP) certification as asset.
Typical office environment working with computers and remaining sedentary for long periods of time. Field work may include exposure to the elements including inclement weather. Ability to lift and move items and equipment up to 50 lbs.
