The Role
We are looking for a Robotic Engineer, Advanced Manufacturing to support our Automotive and Surface Transportation (AST) Research Centre. The incumbent would be someone who shares our core values of Integrity, Excellence, Respect and Creativity.
The engineer will be working at NRC’s Boucherville facility implementing robotic systems. They will be responsible for the development and implementation of new manufacturing processes and technologies that will help Canadian manufacturers with their innovation and improve their productivity.
In addition, the ideal candidate would be a team player with a strong technical background and the ease and ability to communicate effectively with partner organizations.
The engineer will be responsible to:
- Design, develop, and test robotic systems and components, including hardware and software integration.
- Assist research to advance the state-of-the-art in robotics, including areas such as robot synchronisation, optimal toolpath, metrological feedback loop, and human-robot interaction.
- Collaborate with cross-functional teams to define project requirements, develop technical specifications, and ensure successful project execution.
- Prepare technical reports, documentation, and presentations to communicate research findings and project progress.
- Stay current with the latest advancements in robotics and related fields, and apply this knowledge to ongoing projects.
- Mentor and provide guidance to technical officers.

Applicants must demonstrate within the content of their application that they meet the following screening criteria in order to be given further consideration as candidates:
Education
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical, Robotic or Mechatronics Engineering or a related field.
A Master’s degree or PhD would be considered an asset.

Experience
- Significant* experience programming industrial robots in teach mode and offline.
- Experience contributing to research and development projects in the area of robotized manufacturing.
- Experience creating virtual robotic cells with robotic simulation software such as RoboDK.
- Experience with the geometric and kinematic modelling of robotic mechanical systems.
- Experience working in multi-disciplinary teams.
The following experience criteria would be considered as assets:

Experience with the deployment of robotic systems complying with industry standards and safety regulations related to robotics.

Experience with the calibration of industrial robots

Experience with the design, programming and deployment of real-time infrastructures using Linux Xenomai.

Significant experience is defined as two (2) to six (6) years of experience.

Reliability Status
For a Reliability Status, verification of background information over a period of 5 years is required.

Compensation
The intent of this hiring action is to staff this position at the RCO-2 level with a salary range of $83,985 to $116,641.
Note: Please note that the full RO/RCO salary scale has five levels. Salary determination will be based on a review of the candidate’s expertise, outcomes and impacts of their previous work experience relative to the requirements of the level. As such, the initial salary could be within another level of the RO/RCO salary scale (i.e. above or below the intended level for this position).
In addition, the incumbent will receive the Bilingualism Bonus of $800 per year.
