About the role

Job Summary:

The Acting Manager, Crew Scheduling reports to the Director, Crew Resources and leads crew scheduling operations, ensuring efficient staffing, compliance, and operational support. This role oversees workforce planning, payroll, budgeting, labor contract compliance, and analytics while collaborating with key stakeholders to enhance efficiency and reliability.

Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Provide strategic direction and mentorship to the Crew Scheduling, Crew Payroll, Crew Logistics branch
  • Lead the team in handling complex crew scheduling challenges, including irregular operations (IROPs)
  • Ensure accurate and timely submission of payroll for several departments including, Crew Scheduling, Inflight Services, Flight Ops
  • Provide coaching, feedback, and performance management for the branch
  • Lead the recruitment, onboarding, and continuous training of Crew Schedulers, Crew Payroll, Crew Logistics and Crew Analytics
  • Assist in developing and presenting the annual budget for the Crew Resources department
  • Collaborate with finance and operations teams to optimize crew-related costs
  • Participate in FOAG process meetings
  • Participate in operational systems modernization projects to improve branch efficiency
  • Prepare and analyze key performance reports and operational metrics
  • Work closely with Flight Operations, Crew Planning, Payroll, and Network Planning teams
  • Enforce the correct implementation of the Canadian Aviation Regulations pertaining to Crewing operations and the company's policies
  • Actively participate in Porter’s Safety Management System (SMS) including reporting hazards and incidents encountered in daily operations; understand, comply and promote the Company Safety Policy

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in aviation management, business administration, or a related field
  • 5 years experience in Crew Scheduling, Aviation Analytics, or simlar role
  • Stong knowledge of flight crew work rules/contracts
  • Previous supervisory/leadership experience required
  • Strong leadership, team management, and decision-making skills
  • Understanding of CARS regulatory requirements, crew scheduling best practices, and labor agreements
  • Experience in budgeting, cost control, and strategic workforce planning
  • Excellent communication, collaboration, and problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in Navblue NOC, PBS, crew management software and scheduling systems is an asset
  • Experience in implementing or supporting operational technology upgrades is preferred
