About the role
The Database Administrator is a key member of the JDI IT team supporting the J.D. Irving group of companies in the creation, maintenance, and changes to key organizational data.
You will be supporting upwards of 300 Instance and thousands of databases and will play a crucial part in the management and upkeep of the MSSQL space in a large-scale environment. We're looking for a collaborative multitasker who thrives in complex scenarios and communicates seamlessly across IT and business teams.

All successful applicants must meet requirements for Canadian Controlled Goods Program (CGP), Canadian Government Security clearance, and U.S. International Traffic in Arms Regulations (ITAR).

Assist in production promotion by running scripts following change management processes

Provide ongoing maintenance of databases. Participate in on-call support rotation
-
Asses and report on environment trends to predict and prevent performance degradation of supported systems
-
Assist in providing Tier II application support. Ensure issues resolution is well documented by creating work instructions for Tier I & II support
-
Raise issues where specifications need clarification due to quality of requirements or application technical constraints
-
Provide clear and timely communication with the customers and/or managers on the status of tasks

Understand Daily Management processes and Database metrics

Enable the business with new development while ensuring system integrity
-
Responsible for Upholding DBA best Practices

Education required: A university degree, college diploma or a related discipline
-
0-2 years of experience in Database Administration

Basic Database Administration knowledge
-
Able to communicate efficiently with senior leadership on complex technical issues and topics
-
Highly organized and able to manage your time and prioritize appropriately
-
Able to perform research and write technical documents
-
Detail focused, thinking within a technical dimension typically at the database level
Bonus:

Exposure to Oracle DB, PL/SQL programming, Oracle Applications , WebLogic, and relational database design and data modelling

Coursework or experience with Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle
-
Experience installing and maintaining software on a Linux server and a Windows server
-
Programming experience in any language using SQL to access databases
-
Certified Oracle Database Administrator or Professional

Knowledge of DB2 considered an asset
