Account Receivable/ Payable
Status: Full-Time
Reports To: Financial Controller
Wage: 22.50/h
Position Overview
The Accounts Receivable/Payable person will be responsible for the analysis and maintenance of relevant parts of the general ledger , supporting the company's reporting processes and ensuring accurate reporting and record keeping overall . This role involves collaborating with internal teams and external vendors/customers to ensure proper accounting practices. The Accounts Receivable/Payable individual will also assist in the preparation of various financial reports and provide support to the Accounts Payable/Receivable process, while participating in the company’s overall financial planning .
Pelee Island Winery is looking for a detail-oriented Accounts Receivable/Payable individual to join our team. This role will be responsible for managing customer/vendor invoicing, processing payments, and ensuring the accuracy of financial records. The ideal candidate will have strong organizational skills, experience in accounts payable/receivable, and a proactive approach to payments/collections and reconciliation.
Key Responsibilities and Accountabilities
General Accounting & Financial Management
-Support month-end closing processes, prepare journal entries, and perform various accounting duties.
-Reconcile balance sheet accounts and assist in preparing basic financial statements .

Perform bank reconciliations and maintain accurate records for cash management.

Process and verify invoices, ensuring proper documentation and accuracy.

Maintain and update customer/vendor accounts in the accounting system (NetSuite, Sage, Quick Books)

Help in the preparation and filing of regulatory returns (e.g., GST, PST, QST) and returns and reports required in the wine industry (e.g. wine tax, excise tax, J10).

Collaborate with the project team as needed, providing financial insights.
Administrative and Reporting
-Ensure accurate financial record-keeping through purchase and sales orders, supporting documentation for journal entries, and other financial documents.
- Assist in the management of accounting systems and ensure the accuracy of data entries.
-Generate financial reports on a monthly, summarizing financial performance.
Knowledge and Skills
- In-depth understanding of Microsoft Office 365 , ideally with advanced Excel skills to support data analysis.
-Critical thinking, logical analysis , and independent problem-solving skills to manage financial discrepancies.
-Attention to detail and ability to spot inconsistencies or errors in financial documents.

Ability to work both independently and as part of a team, with strong organizational skills .

Good written and verbal communication skills, including experience in communicating with various departments .
Communication

Ability to effectively communicate across departments , ensuring financial needs are met and compliance is maintained.

Regularly collaborate with internal stakeholders to ensure financial data and requirements are accurately presented and understood.

Other duties might be assigned by the supervisor.
Required Qualifications
-Bachelor’s or Associate Degree in Finance, Accounting , or a closely related field (required).
-Minimum of 2 years of accounting experience in a similar role.

Proficient in using accounting software and ERP systems (e.g., NetSuite, Sage, Quick Books), with experience in bridging between different systems .

Strong understanding of accounting principles , with working knowledge of tax filings, financial statements , and regulatory requirements.

Excellent attention to detail and independent problem-solving skills.
-Self-starter with high attention to detail and a problem-solving attitude .

Familiarity with accounts payable/receivable , billing systems , and cash management processes.
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions

This role is performed in an indoor office setting , with regular office tasks and computer-based work.

Ability to sit for extended periods while working at a desk or computer.
-
The role involves routine office tasks and requires the ability to organize documents and maintain filing systems.
