Engineer-in-Training (EIT) – Structural Inspection About the Opportunity CAM Industrial Supply is seeking a motivated and detail-oriented Engineer-in-Training (EIT) to support the growth and execution of our Pallet Racking Inspection and Compliance Program. This role combines field inspections, engineering analysis, client communication, and technical reporting to help ensure warehouse storage systems comply with applicable safety regulations and engineering standards. The successful candidate will work closely with Professional Engineers and senior technical staff to inspect pallet racking systems, evaluate structural conditions, document deficiencies, and provide recommendations that improve workplace safety and regulatory compliance. This position offers extensive field exposure, opportunities for professional development, and hands-on experience in structural engineering, industrial facilities, warehouse operations, and project management. Key Responsibilities Field Inspections and Assessments Conduct regular field inspections of pallet racking systems, shelving systems, mezzanines, and related warehouse storage structures. Inspect racking materials, components, and installations for structural damage, deficiencies, and code compliance. Verify compliance with: Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) Regulations National Building Code of Canada (NBCC) Provincial Building Codes CSA Standards Rack Manufacturers Institute (RMI) Specifications Manufacturer installation requirements Identify damaged, overloaded, improperly installed, or modified rack components. Perform measurements, photographic documentation, and field data collection. Travel to client facilities throughout Alberta and other regions as required. Engineering and Technical Support Assist Professional Engineers in structural evaluations and engineering reviews. Prepare inspection reports documenting findings, risk levels, and corrective actions. Assist with engineering calculations, structural assessments, and capacity evaluations. Develop inspection drawings, repair details, and technical sketches using AutoCAD or similar software. Support permit applications and regulatory submissions when required. Maintain accurate inspection records and technical documentation. Client and Stakeholder Communication Communicate inspection findings and recommendations to clients in a professional manner. Coordinate with facility managers, safety personnel, warehouse operators, contractors, manufacturers, and regulatory authorities. Participate in project meetings and technical discussions. Assist clients in understanding compliance requirements and corrective actions. Program Development Support the expansion and continuous improvement of CAM's pallet racking inspection program. Assist in developing inspection procedures, checklists, templates, and quality control processes. Contribute to the development of inspection software, databases, and asset management systems. Stay current with industry standards, codes, and best practices related to warehouse storage systems and structural safety. Qualifications Required Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering, Structural Engineering, or a related discipline. Registered or eligible for registration as an Engineer-in-Training (EIT) with APEGA. 1–5 years of relevant engineering, construction, inspection, or structural experience. Knowledge of structural steel systems and construction methods. Strong understanding of engineering drawings and technical documentation. Experience preparing technical reports and engineering documentation. Strong written and verbal communication skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications. Valid Class 5 Driver's License. Ability and willingness to travel regularly to client facilities. Preferred Experience performing field inspections of structural systems. Familiarity with warehouse storage systems and pallet racking. Knowledge of OHS legislation, CSA standards, NBCC, and RMI specifications. Experience with AutoCAD and structural analysis software. Construction, industrial, manufacturing, or warehouse experience. Experience using inspection management software or asset management systems. Working Conditions Combination of office and field-based work. Frequent travel to client facilities and industrial sites. Regular exposure to warehouse, manufacturing, and distribution environments. Occasional lifting, climbing, and working at heights in accordance with safety procedures.
