Job Description

The Network & Infrastructure Technical Lead is responsible for the planning, implementation, maintenance, and support of the organization’s IT infrastructure, with a strong focus on networking, virtualization, cloud services, and systems reliability. This role will act as the primary technical expert for infrastructure and networking solutions. While this is not a people-management role, it requires a high level of independent technical expertise, problem-solving ability, and cross-departmental collaboration.

The Technical Lead will ensure that IT infrastructure is secure, stable, and scalable to support the organization’s operations. The role will also provide technical guidance on infrastructure-related projects and support the Manager of IT in driving technology initiatives.

Task & Responsibilities:

Network & Infrastructure Management:

  • Design, implement, and support secure and reliable network infrastructures, including LAN, WAN, VPN, Wi-Fi, and firewall solutions.
  • Administer and optimize network equipment (switches, routers, firewalls, wireless access points).
  • Oversee infrastructure upgrades, migrations, and new implementations to align with business needs and industry best practices.
  • Monitor network performance, troubleshoot issues, and proactively resolve potential outages or bottlenecks.
  • Maintain and optimize virtualization platforms (VMware, Hyper-V, or similar).

Cloud & Virtualization

  • Deploy, maintain, and support cloud-based solutions (Microsoft Azure, AWS, or equivalent).
  • Manage hybrid cloud environments, including identity and access management.
  • Ensure data backups, disaster recovery, and business continuity plans are implemented and tested regularly.

Security & Compliance

  • Ensure networks and infrastructure systems comply with company policies, industry regulations, and cybersecurity standards.
  • Implement and monitor network and infrastructure security controls such as firewalls, intrusion detection/prevention, and patch management.
  • Conduct regular vulnerability assessments and coordinate remediation activities.

Technical Leadership & Collaboration

  • Act as the subject matter expert (SME) for networking and infrastructure technologies.
  • Provide technical input on IT projects, infrastructure upgrades, and system integrations.
  • Collaborate with IT peers, application teams, and business stakeholders to ensure IT infrastructure supports organizational goals.
  • Support and coordinate with external vendors, service providers, and contractors when required.

Operations & Support

  • Strong Project management skills are required
  • Provide 3rd-level support for escalated technical issues related to infrastructure and networking.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of configurations, processes, and procedures.
  • Track and report on infrastructure performance, incidents, and service levels to the Manager of IT.
  • Support system patching, updates, and hardware lifecycle management.

Technical Skills & Certifications

Certification, or ability to demonstrate 5+ years experience in these areas is required:

  • Strong knowledge of Microsoft Office networking and infrastructure.
  • Hands-on experience with enterprise-level networking (LAN/WAN/VPN/Wi-Fi, routing, switching, firewall administration).
  • Experience with Microsoft Active Directory, Group Policy, and DNS/DHCP.
  • Strong understanding of virtualization technologies (VMware, Hyper-V, or equivalent).
  • Knowledge of cloud platforms such as Microsoft Azure or AWS.
  • Familiarity with backup and disaster recovery solutions.
  • Network certification (CCNA, CCNP, or equivalent).
  • Virtualization certification (VMware VCP, Microsoft Hyper-V).
  • Cloud certification (Microsoft Azure Administrator, AWS Certified Solutions Architect, or similar).

Qualifications

  • College diploma or bachelor’s degree in computer science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent work experience.

  • Minimum 5–7 years of progressive IT infrastructure and networking experience.

  • Demonstrated experience managing and supporting enterprise-level infrastructure environments.

  • Proven experience troubleshooting complex network and system issues.

  • Exposure to IT project work, migrations, and technology upgrades.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with a detail-oriented mindset.

  • Ability to work independently and take ownership of infrastructure initiatives.

  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills to work with technical and non-technical stakeholders.

  • High degree of professionalism, with the ability to handle sensitive issues with discretion.

  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.

  • Experience with cybersecurity frameworks and compliance standards.

  • Knowledge of monitoring and logging tools (SolarWinds, PRTG, or similar).

  • Experience in multi-site infrastructure support.
