Role Overview
The role is responsible for evaluating and underwriting financial risks by analyzing financial statements and overall health of a loan. It involves assessing the financial health of properties, borrowers, and guarantors, and advising the credit team on repayment capacity and credit risk using financial ratios, occupancy rates, and market data. The position supports commercial loan execution through ensuring compliance with documentation standards based on CMCH requirements. It also includes conducting due diligence, affordable rent tracking, and leveraging financial tools for portfolio analysis. Being a part of MFR Enablement, the role requires strategic communication and continuous process improvement.
About the Qualifications:
- A minimum of 1 to 3 years in administration, customer service, commercial CMHC lending, or commercial real estate is mandatory.
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Suite (Excel, and Word) is mandatory.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Excellent financial analysis skills
- Proficiency in AML and KYC requirements
- Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to foster relationships quickly
- Highly meticulous and methodical with exceptional organizational skills
- Work well under pressure with minimal supervision and thrive in fast-paced and virtual environments
- Experience in CMHC lending is an asset
- An undergraduate degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or Business Administration is an asset
About the Day-to-Day:
- Evaluate and underwrite financial risks or performance by assessing financial statements and other documents like Personal Net worth Statements, Cash flow statements, and other documents followed by writing narratives, reports, and recommendations.
- Assess the financial standing of properties in the portfolio, borrowers, and guarantors.
- Analyze construction and investment projects and assess risk.
- Advise the credit team on potential repayment capacity issues from borrowers, and credit risk default by analyzing financial ratios, rental occupancy, capitalization rate, and affordable market rents.
- File documents, annual financial statements, and rent rolls as required for internal requirements, CMHC Reviews, and Construction Draws.
- Liaise with the Mortgage Administration team, head office personnel, and Peoples Group solicitors to ensure timely execution of commercial loans/deals.
- Perform due diligence and prepare policies for credit reviews and renewals. Regularly update the credit policies as a part of the continuous improvement process.
- Implement use of financial tools to manage and analyze financial portfolio of the company.
- Compile the information in terms of investment and financial information about companies, stocks, bonds, and other investments, company financial statements, and other financial reports and publications to assess risk and liquidity to pay out debts.
- Become a Subject Matter Expert on assigned Commercial Sales Support activities.
- Communicate with borrowers, brokers, and other internal departments by phone and e-mail to advise on products and policies.
- Prepare and draft commitment letters and other documentation with respect to Loan Renewals, Loan Assumptions, CMHC credit annual reviews, Construction Draws, and Broker Fee Payments.
- Ensure and analyze that all agreements and documents are fully executed, and that all conditions (including AML requirements) are satisfied.
- Process Broker Fee Payments as per internal policies and procedures.
- Analyze Canadian bond yields and forecast the rates to quote insured mortgage interest rates to borrowers and brokers.
- Strategize and analyze data for process improvement.
