Job Description Metrolinx is connecting communities across the Greater Golden Horseshoe. Metrolinx operates GO Transit and UP Express, as well as the PRESTO fare payment system. We are also building new and improved rapid transit, including GO Expansion, Light Rail Transit routes, and major expansions to Toronto’s subway system, to get people where they need to go, better, faster and easier. Under the supervision of the Manager, the Project Coordinator is responsible for coordinating and providing regular updates reports on the day-to-day activities of the project, or specific component of the project, including the design and construction of assigned physical infrastructure projects, in a safe, timely, consistent and cost effective manner.
Start Rate (Non-negotiable): $49.68 per hour.
What will I be doing?
- Oversee the project work of consultants and contractors, to ensure compliance with Metrolinx’s Standards, and internal stakeholder group requirements, through all project stages.
- Lead and coordinate the review of and response to documents such as project design submittals, workplans, RFIs, contract specifications and drawings, within the contractual timeframe.
- Plan and report all project expenditures such as consultant fees, purchase orders, construction contracts, quotations and change orders.
- Coordinate project scope and requirements to ensure all internal and external approvals are obtained on time to mitigate risks.
- Organize and maintain meetings with external parties such as the City of Toronto, Metrolinx’s Owner’s Consultant and Technical Advisors to ensure compliance with project requirements, legislation, codes and regulatory requirements. You may be required to chair some of these meetings, with support from a more senior member of the team.
- Ensure an agenda is produced and communicated to all attendees, ahead of relevant meetings.
- Take notes or minutes at relevant meetings.
- Attend regular Rail Corridor Access meetings with internal and external groups to ensure project needs are clearly communicated.
- Manage re-zoning needs for the project with Metrolinx Permits License and Approvals team in consultation with City Planning.
- Represent the Project at regular City of Toronto Permitting meetings with internal and external groups to ensure project permitting needs are clearly communicated.
- Represent the Project at regular Quality meetings with internal and external groups to ensure project quality needs are clearly communicated, including drafting non-conformance reports.
- Ensure project completion and commissioning for handover to user group.
- Oversee all site works and construction works, working directly with contractors on site. During construction, you will be required to visit the project site at least once a week. Regular site visits are required during working hours and occasional visits during evenings, weekends and/or holidays. Site visits may involve exposure to different levels of construction at stations, platforms, and railway corridors along with exposure to inclement weather.
- Occasional contact with customers/stakeholders to respond to their enquiries and/or complaints.
- Work with Project Manager to manage risk, cost, schedule, permits and all other performance indicators related to execution of the work.
- You will be working in a fast-paced schedule construction environment, working collaboratively with others to resolve issues and facilitate the execution of the works.
- Support other members of the team in working towards all required established processes, such as Change Management, Risk Management, Readiness and Scheduling Updates.
What Skills and Qualifications Do I Need?
- A college diploma in Civil Engineering Technology or an equivalent combination of education, training and experience providing a thorough knowledge of the theories and practices of engineering/architecture.
- Minimum five (5) years’ experience related to the planning, design and construction of transit facilities, interpreting and applying contract plans and specifications and co-ordinating contracted engineering projects.
- Knowledge of the theory, principles and practices of civil/structural engineering and architecture.
- Detailed knowledge of project management including cost control, scheduling, codes, standards, specifications, corporate procedures and applicable contract legislation.
- Understanding of Railway Rules and Regulations and Safety & Operating procedures.
- Excellent written and oral communication skills, ability to work independently, strong interpersonal skills and analytical ability are a must.
- Proficiency in the use of project management software and computer applications is essential (i.e., Oracle Primavera Unifier, PowerBI, SharePoint).
- Proficiency in the use of computer applications such as Bluebeam, Revit, GIS & AutoCAD would be desirable.
- This position requires the successful candidate to be present at various designated onsite locations as assigned by their leader, for a minimum of three (3) days each week. Additionally, as an operational business continuity functional coordinator, the candidate should be prepared to make regular visits during evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays as necessary.
- Have a valid Ontario “G” Driver’s Licence for regular site visits (a Driver’s Abstract (within the last 3 Years) will be required of the successful candidate.
