About the role

The Burnaby School District is seeking qualified Education Assistants for on-call assignments.

Responsibilities Education Assistants are responsible for providing support for students in and out of the classroom, and within the community. Specifically, assistance is provided in the following:

  • Behaviour management
  • Curriculum implementation
  • Social skills development
  • Personal care
  • Physical assistance

Required Qualifications To be considered, candidates must have the following:

  • Completion of Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Completion of a one year minimum recognized program in special needs assistance or an equivalent combination of training and/or experience.
  • Fluency in American Sign Language (ASL)
  • Demonstrated ability to work effectively with a full range of students with special needs.
  • Working knowledge of adaptive/assistive technology related to work performed
  • Working knowledge of computer operation and software applications related to work performed.
  • Thorough knowledge of safety procedures related to work performed.
  • Physical ability to perform the duties and responsibilities of the job.
  • Ability to communicate effectively at the level required for the job.
  • Demonstrated ability to work at the level of independence and with the degree of initiative appropriate to the position.

Hourly Rate: $35.11 per hour.

Schools The Burnaby School District operates 41 elementary and 8 secondary schools, including a range of district and provincial resource programs. During the summer months, our District provides students the opportunity to take various courses. Summer session is an opportunity for teachers, who choose to, to continue working during the summer months.

Students The Burnaby School District supports and provides learning to 25,000 Kindergarten to Grade 12 (K-12) students and to more than 6,000 adult learners.
