Director of Financial Planning and Analysis
About the role
Horizon Recruitment is recruiting for a Director, Finance to join a high-growth mining company advancing from exploration toward early-stage development. As the company scales its activities, the CFO is seeking a senior finance leader with strong FP&A capability, hands-on commercial experience, and exposure to day-to-day operations in mining or another flow-through intensive industry. This role goes beyond oversight of reporting: it is a key internal partner to operations, budgeting, contract analysis, and financial planning as the organization prepares for its next phase of growth.
Responsibilities:
- Lead the budgeting, forecasting, and variance analysis processes across exploration and development activities
- Provide commercial support to operational leaders, including contract analysis, vendor negotiations, and spend evaluation
- Build and refine the monthly budget-to-actuals process and develop meaningful management reporting
- Partner closely with the outsourced accounting provider (Sentinel) responsible for bookkeeping and month-end close
- Strengthen internal finance capability by bringing operational visibility into financial decision-making
- Support policy development in areas such as flow-through expenditures, tax filings, and documentation
- Collaborate with the CFO on strategic planning, project economics, and long-range financial models
- Ensure data accuracy and financial integrity in support of board materials, cashflow oversight, and corporate governance
- Contribute insight into future system improvements as the company matures
- Participate in occasional site visits to better understand operational drivers and team needs
Requirements:
- CPA or equivalent accounting designation required
- Minimum 8 years of progressive accounting and reporting experience
- Public company experience is required, ideally in mining or a capital-intensive sector
- Proven ability to set up and lead finance processes in lean, hands-on environments
- Familiarity with disclosure obligations and reporting to boards or audit committees
- Strong systems orientation; experience with QuickBooks Desktop and Beanworks is helpful
- Practical, solutions-focused mindset with strong relationship and communication skills
Remuneration:
Base salary: $160,000 - $180,000
Short-term incentive: 20 percent target
Long-term incentive: 20 percent target
