Job Description

The Engineer in Training, Mining supports effective and reliable engineering design, budget, schedule, quality, and reporting for assigned operations at Magna Mining.

All Magna Mining team members are expected to work collaboratively with others, lead the way in health and safety, act with honesty, integrity, and foster an entrepreneurial spirit in pursuit of excellence.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the development of short-term and long-term mine plans that align with organization strategy.

  • Support the preparation of production schedules, ensuring efficient use of resources and minimal disruption.

  • Work with senior engineers to revise schedules based on operational changes, equipment availability, and other factors.

  • Contribute to the design of underground mining operations, including layouts, ventilation systems, and support structures.

  • Conduct geotechnical evaluations and collaborate with geologists to determine the optimal extraction methods.

  • Use specialized software to create and update mine models and designs.

  • Assist in preparing and monitoring operational budgets.

  • Work closely with financial teams to evaluate cost-saving initiatives and optimize resource allocation.

  • Contribute to the analysis of capital and operating costs and metrics

  • Ensure that all mine plans and designs comply with local, regional, and federal regulations related to safety and the environment.

  • Support senior engineers in managing projects from conception to completion, ensuring timelines, budgets, and quality standards are met.

  • Assist in coordinating with contractors, suppliers, and internal teams to ensure effective and reliable execution of work.

  • Prepare technical reports and documentation related to mine design, performance, and production.

  • Maintain accurate records of mine layouts, schedules, and budgets for future reference.

Requirements

Qualifications: Formal Education, Certifications or Equivalents

  • Post-secondary education in Mine Engineering, or a related field.

  • Registration or eligibility to register as an Engineer in Training with the Professional Engineers of Ontario is required.

Work Experience: Nature & Length

  • 1 or more year of mine engineering experience, with a focus on underground mining operations.

Key Competencies: Behaviours & Skills

  • Proficient in mine design and planning software.

  • Knowledge of the principles and practices of mine engineering.

  • Proficient with common computer skills including preparation of documents and presentations, spreadsheet use, database data entry, and email use.

  • Proven analytical skills with attention to detail.

  • Written and verbal communication skills.
