Team Overview

Western Canada represents a critical growth engine for Canada and EDC’s Mid‑Market strategy, with significant opportunity across priority sectors including Agri‑food, Energy and Energy Transition, Critical Minerals, and Advanced Manufacturing and Digital industries. As global trade patterns evolve and exporters seek to diversify markets and scale internationally, EDC is intentionally strengthening its regional execution model to ensure we are positioned to sustain the rate of growth with which we are supporting Western Canadian companies with high impact support.

The Mid‑Market Business (MMB) Western team is seeking a Sr. Market Development Associate (Sr. MDA) to help advance these ambitions. This role is central to enabling the execution of Western Canada’s growth and diversification strategy, translating regional and national priorities into coordinated action across the Western Canadian trade ecosystem.

Reporting to the Regional Director, Strategic Initiatives – Western Canada, the Sr. MDA plays a central role in creating the conditions for success by activating regional strategy execution, strengthening ecosystem and partner engagement, and supporting delivery of high‑impact initiatives aligned with EDC’s 2030 strategy. The role works closely with Regional Directors, Relationship Managers, sector and partnership teams, Global Business Development, Marketing, Communications, and a network of external stakeholders.

The Sr. MDA will help evolve regional ways of working — enabling Regional Directors and Relationship Managers to focus on high‑impact customer and partner relationships while regional priorities are executed with discipline and coherence.

What you will be doing:

1. Enablement of Market Development Strategy

  • Serves as the primary enabler and orchestrator of Western Canada’s Integrated Regional Plan (IRP) ensuring the infrastructure that supports planning, execution, and performance tracking across the region is kept current so that Strategic Planning is seamlessly translated into execution.
  • Facilitates the Western Strategic Plan by supporting the annual planning cycle and establishing a disciplined quarterly cadence to monitor progress against priorities using data‑informed dashboards and performance metrics.
  • Measures, analyzes, and communicates progress, milestones, risks, and outcomes to regional and senior leadership, recommending improvements to tools, processes, and execution where needed.
  • Translates strategic priorities into day‑to‑day execution support for regional programming, initiatives, and market‑facing activities.

2. Ecosystem & Partnerships Management

  • Supports and enables the identification, development, and stewardship of relationships with high‑value partners, influencers, and ecosystem leaders across Western Canada.
  • Collaborates with partners to conceptualize strategic programming, thought leadership opportunities, and joint initiatives aligned with regional priorities.
  • Acts as a relationship manager for key Western partners and programs, including corporate representation and coordination of delegated relationship management.
  • Ensure aligned execution across sub‑regions by communicating program updates, opportunities, and milestones.

3. Support Market Diversification Activities

  • Enables delivery of Western diversification initiatives in partnership with internal stakeholders, including sector teams, Global Business Development, Marketing, Communications, and Corporate Outreach.
  • Serves as a liaison to national teams to ensure alignment, information flow, and coordinated execution of diversification priorities.
  • Coordinates execution of market visits, itineraries, and partner engagements, ensuring senior‑level interactions are well prepared and outcomes are captured.
  • Supports pilots and experiments by managing timelines, deliverables, insights, and cross‑functional coordination.

4. Marketing & Corporate Outreach Liaison for the West

  • Serves as the central liaison between Western regional teams and Marketing, Communications, and Corporate Outreach.
  • Coordinates speaker sourcing, attendee identification, briefing materials, and content needs for regional and national initiatives.
  • Ensures Western alignment with national brand, campaigns, storytelling priorities, and executive‑level engagements.

What we are looking for:

A collaborative, initiative‑taking professional with strong strategic, analytical, and execution capabilities who is motivated to build and shape EDC’s evolving Western strategy. The successful candidate will be comfortable operating in matrixed environments, influencing without authority, and engaging with senior leaders on complex, cross‑functional initiatives.

Must**‑**have qualifications

  • Undergraduate degree in Business, Commerce, Communications, International Business, Public Policy, or a related field.
  • Experience in market development, ecosystem engagement, partner management, program or project management, or regional enablement roles.
  • Demonstrated experience working in matrixed environments and supporting executive‑level communication and decision‑making.
  • Strong communication, writing, facilitation, and synthesis skills.
  • Strong project management and data‑driven orientation, with experience tracking performance and supporting informed decision‑making.
