Position Summary The QA Technician works under the direction of the Operations Manager and will primarily be responsible for ensuring adherence to quality guidelines as designated. The QA Technician ensures conformance of quality procedures for raw materials and finished products, assists in troubleshooting, and communicates the updates to the operations team. The QA Technician will support with the development of new processes and product standards for the plant.

Responsibilities

  • To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
  • Ensure adherence to the overall requirements for Quality specifications and standards for materials, processes and finished products.
  • Perform daily checks on Blenders and Mixers to validate compliance with standard mixes procedure.
  • Sign off process during Blenders and Extruders change-over.
  • Perform daily checks on all CNC process and 1st off checks for assembly lines.
  • Monitor Assembly to ensure quality of craftsmanship.
  • Testing and Verification of results – density, moisture and melt tests for raw materials and extruder plastics.
  • Calibrate Equipment - Calibrate all testing equipment at required schedule.
  • Review daily colour and porosity checks on the extruders.
  • Provide Quality training for new hires.
  • Audits - Participate in various facility audits with the Operations Manager. Ensure all finished product and raw materials are within specification. Ensure all procedures are followed.
  • Draft procedures, work instructions, forms and other documents when needed.
  • Prepare issue reports in case of quality deviations. Ensure all Quality records are up to date and filed correctly. General filing, data entry and other administrative tasks.
  • Train Team Members on Quality standards and applicable procedures.
  • Support process mapping for quality activities in order to document quality processes.
  • Quality support in production for troubleshooting deviations and collecting information to prepare issue reports to communicate quality decisions and outcomes.
  • Investigate customer complaints as required and use Root Cause Analysis tools to determine potential causes, define preventive and corrective actions.
  • Ensure transactional steps are done in SAP in case parts/products are quarantined from the process or quality deviations.
  • Inspect and log results from the replacement parts process in production.
  • Ensure non-conforming parts samples are labeled for further investigation.
  • Assist in Built-in Quality projects and perform Kaizen activities.
  • Maintains a safe and healthy work environment by following standards and procedures.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Education/Skills/Experience

  • High School Diploma
  • Related post-secondary degree or diploma preferred
  • 1-3 years of experience in manufacturing and a minimum of 1-year experience in Quality is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communications skills to interact effectively with all functions and levels at the plant.
  • Strong computer skills including Outlook and MS Office.
  • Good attention to detail.
  • Excellent problem-solving, mathematical, and troubleshooting skills.
  • Ability to prioritize, handle multiple tasks and work with cross-functional teams.

  • The employee must regularly lift and/or move up to 35 pounds and occasionally may maneuver up to 50 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job may include but are not limited to close vision, distance vision, color vision, peripheral vision, and depth perception.
  • Must be able to stand continuously for the duration of the scheduled shift.
