Job Summary

A Brief Overview

The Faculty of Law is nationally and internationally recognized as a leading law school, with a distinguished record of outstanding teaching and research. In addition to offering the JD and graduate (LLM and PhD) programs, the Faculty of Law also offers innovative online programs such as the Certificate in Law and the Graduate Diploma in Immigration and Citizenship Law, along with Professional Certificate Programs designed to meet the evolving needs of the legal profession and related markets.

Reporting to the Assistant Dean, Graduate Studies and Professional Programs, the Instructional Design Support Administrator will provide proficient support in the development and delivery of online courses. Working with other members of the Educational Development (EdDev) team, the incumbent will contribute to the development and refinement of course modules, such as files, activities, assessments, multimedia content, and gradebooks, within the Learning Management System (LMS); collaborate with instructors to provide orientation, training, and best practices for using LMS tools; and develop clear and practical how-to documentation for faculty and staff. In addition, the incumbent may may oversee casual staff and/or work study students, support project coordination within the course development team, troubleshoot technical issues, and contribute ideas that enhance the overall online learning experience in a rapidly evolving digital environment.

The successful candidate will have strong technical skills, an aptitude for learning and applying new technologies, and a commitment to staying ahead of trends in educational technology. They will bring knowledge of multimedia production, including video filming, editing, and post-production, as well as quality assurance processes to ensure content is accurate, accessible, and engaging.

This position recommends and makes changes to Learning Management System mediated course modules including files, course components, activities, content, videos, and gradebooks. This position assists the course development team with video filming, editing and production, and provides testing, makes revisions, and proofs course components and materials prior to course release. This position also provides course development support in areas such as loading and configuring materials, developing assessments, and setting up interactive teaching forums, and completes the quality assurance process by ensuring that course materials are loaded properly, meet content requirements and accessibility formats, and performs integrity checks.

Job Description
What you will do Recommends and makes changes to Learning Management System mediated course modules including files, course components, activities, content, videos, and gradebooks.

Assists course development team with video filming, editing and production.

Provides testing, makes revisions, and proofs course components and materials prior to course release.

Makes course revisions based on direction from members of the course development team.

Provides support to instructors by sharing process information including required documents and deadlines, and academic policies and procedures.

Provides orientation and guidance to instructors to support their acquisition of and ability to leverage tools in the learning management system.

Provides course development support in areas such as loading and configuring materials, developing assessments, and setting up interactive teaching forums.

Completes the quality assurance process by ensuring that course materials are loaded properly, meet content requirements and accessibility formats, and performs integrity checks.

Coordinates the review and publishing of support documents related to best practices in online learning.

  • Other duties as required in the support of the department and/or unit.

Required Education

  • Three-year Community College Diploma or Three-Year Bachelor Degree, or equivalent. In addition, requires trade certification, qualification, or on-going learning to remain ahead of changes in technology or emerging fields.

Required Experience

  • More than 2 years and up to and including 3 years of experience.
    • Experience with learning management system functionalities and standards is considered an asset.

    • Familiarity with online learning strategies considered an asset.

    • Knowledge of eLearning standards and best practices as well as emerging learning technologies is considered an asset.

    • Experience in graphic design and production with a familiarity of graphic/multi-media design tools and technologies considered an asset (e.g., Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, ProTools, AfterEffects, etc.).

    • Experience in planning and/or managing projects considered an asset.

    • Experience in IT software and systems with a focus on designing curriculum/content considered an asset (e.g., tests, visual aids, etc.).

    • Experience working with diverse populations/equity deserving groups considered an asset.

    • Experience working at a post-secondary education institution considered an asset.

    • Experience in writing, interviewing, reviewing, editing and/or proofreading internal and/or external communications and documents considered an asset (e.g., social media, policy manuals, newsletters, handbooks, legal documents, forms/templates, blogs, training/reference materials, technical documents, webinars, etc.).

Consideration will be given to an equivalent combination of education and experience.
