About the role

The Faculty of Business at the University of Prince Edward Island has openings forsessional instructors for the Winter 2027 semester. Full-time and term contract Faculty Members are encouraged to apply and may be considered if there are no members of the Sessional Roster who have Right of Recall or applied for the position and have met the qualifications. This position is subject to final budgetary approval.

Please note: the courses offered below will be taught in person unless indicated as Web.

UNDERGRADUATE TEACHING OPPORTUNITIES:

ACCT 2210-02 Managerial Accounting – T/Th 2:30 pm-3:45 pm

The emphasis throughout this course is on the uses of accounting and other financial tools in the management of a business. Topics include inventory costing methods, cost allocation, cost behavior, the contribution approach, pricing, and budgeting. Three hours a week.

ACCT 4160-01 Auditing, Accounting, Society – M/W 2:30 pm-3:45 pm

The main focus of this course will be the application and extension of auditing and accounting concepts to realistic scenarios through the use of case analysis. This advanced course will also focus on the role of auditors and accountants in society. Topics include the financial reporting environment, the standard-setting process, regulatory influences on the profession, corporate governance, ethics and professionalism, and emerging issues in the profession. Three hours a week.

BUS 2410-01 Management Information Systems – T/Th 4:00 pm-5:15 pm

This course provides an introduction and understanding of the value and uses of information systems for business operations and management decision-making. It concentrates on providing an understanding of the tools and basic terminology needed to understand information systems and their role in the business environment. Topics include information systems concepts, a review of information technology concepts, the fundamentals of e-business, planning and development of information systems, and the management of these systems. Three hours a week.

BUS 2410-02 Management Information Systems – T/Th 8:30 am-9:45 am

This course provides an introduction and understanding of the value and uses of information systems for business operations and management decision-making. BUS-3010-02 Business Law Part I – Wed 5:30 pm-8:15 pm

This course offers students a basic introduction to the legal system and, in particular, the areas of tort, property, and contract law. A major portion of the course is devoted to the study of the legal implications of contractual issues in business endeavors. Legal cases are used, when applicable, to illustrate principles of law. Three hours a week.

BUS 3350-01 Canadian Public Admin – Tues 5:30 pm-815pm

Canadian Public Administration will provide an overview of how the Canadian public sector works, including federal, provincial, and municipal organizations. Specifically, the focus will be on management, budgeting, and operations, with emphasis on accountability, transparency, and the professional public service.

BUS 3430-01 Integrated Cases in Marketing – M/W 2:30 pm-3:45 pm

This course shows how basic marketing concepts are applied and integrated with other business functions in contemporary business situations. The main focus of the course is on marketing management, planning, executing, and controlling marketing programs. Other topics include international marketing, marketing research, and the social responsibility of marketing managers. The course considers the relationships between these topics and the other business functions. There is extensive use of case method teaching, and students are expected to develop the written and oral communication skills necessary for problem-solving in marketing. Three hours a week.

BUS 3710-01 Entrepreneurship & New Venture – T/Th 2:30 pm-3:45 pm

This course is a study of the nature and background of entrepreneurship and the process involved from idea to opportunity to new business venture. Students are expected to study the environment in which entrepreneurship flourishes from both the perspective of the entrepreneur and of the economic system. The generation of ideas and opportunities is discussed, as well as the subsequent transformation of an opportunity into a formal business plan. The course concludes with an examination of the process of implementation of the business plan and the management of the new business that results. Extensive case analysis is required. Three hours a week.

BUS 3910-02 Strategic Management – T/Th 4:00 pm-5:15 pm

This course provides students with an opportunity to explore the concepts of strategic thinking, analysis, and planning. It integrates the functional and process areas studied in the degree program and utilizes cases to give students experience in crafting business strategy. Three hours a week.

BUS 3910-03 Strategic Management – T/Th 11:30 am-12:45 pm

This course provides students with an opportunity to explore the concepts of strategic thinking, analysis, and planning. It integrates the functional and process areas studied in the degree program and utilizes cases to give students experience in crafting business strategy. Three hours a week.

BUS 4460-01 Personal Selling & Sales – T/Th 10:00 am-11:15 am

This course will examine the principles and practices of personal selling as a strategic part of an overall marketing plan. Specifically, the course will look at customer relationship management, developing sales pitches, and business-to-business sales strategies. Three hours a week.

BUS 4770-01 International Marketing – T/Th 4:00 pm-5:15 pm

This course addresses global issues that confront today's international marketer and presents concepts relevant to all international marketers. The focus is to develop a managerial understanding of international marketing and the competitiveness of Canadian and Island businesses in the global market. It provides a view of world markets, their respective consumers and environments, and the marketing management required to meet the demands of dynamic international settings. Three hours a week.

UNIV 3200-01 Entrepreneurship Venture Implementation – T/Th 4:00 pm- 5:15 pm

Entrepreneurship Venture Implementation is a standalone but companion course with UNIV-3100. It provides students with a diverse set of skills and strategies for further developing and refining their startup ventures. The course offers interactive sessions, mentorship, and industry insights to serve the varied needs of startup ventures, including scaling, market entry, and other aspects of entrepreneurial development.

Qualifications for teaching Undergraduate courses:

Successful applicants will have a minimum of a Master's level degree along with demonstrated expertise in the course subject or equivalent, with a combination of qualifications and experience. Priority will be given to applicants with a relevant PhD.

For courses in Accounting, applicants must be a practicing CPA.
