TENURE-TRACK FACULTY POSITION IN SOCIOLOGY WITH A SPECIALIZATION IN

EQUITY, DIVERSITY, AND HUMAN RIGHTS

The School of Social Sciences in the Faculty of Arts at Laurentian University invites applications from

suitably qualified candidates for an existing tenure-track faculty position at the rank of Assistant

Professor in Sociology with a specialization in Equity, Diversity, and Human Rights*.* The preferred

start date is July 1, 2026.

Candidates must have completed a PhD degree by the start date of the appointment. Relevant

teaching and research experience will be an asset.

The successful candidate will possess the following essential qualifications:

• A PhD or ABD in Sociology, Equity, Diversity, and Human Rights, or a related field*.*
• Demonstrated ability to teach undergraduate courses effectively
• A strong commitment to pedagogical and academic excellence, promoting a safe,

inclusive, and welcoming learning environment, and advancing Laurentian University’s

bilingual and tricultural mandates.

• Extensive experience teaching courses in Equity, Diversity, and Human Rights.
• Evidence of relevant research and scholarship, with the potential to collaborate with

colleagues and build interdisciplinary or intersectoral collaborations within and outside

the university.

The selected candidate will be required to:

• Teach in-person on campus while actively contributing to student learning within a

collegial and cooperative academic environment.

• Actively participate in teaching at both the undergraduate and graduate levels, along with

a commitment to program development and research.

• Actively involved in program administration and supervision of undergraduate and

graduate students.

• Collaborate with faculty in the Sociology and Criminology programs (the other programs

offered by the Sociology unit) with a commitment to promoting a diverse, inclusive, and

dynamic academic environment.

While teaching for this position will be conducted in English, preference will be given to bilingual

candidates (English and French) or those who possess passive comprehension of French, or who,

per Articles 3.10 and 5.30 of the LUFA Collective Agreement, can demonstrate knowledge and/or

study of an Indigenous language and one of the two official languages of Laurentian University

instead of passive comprehension of both English and French.

Actively engaging in teaching, research and governance, the successful candidate will establish a

strong presence on campus, contributing to the Sociology unit, School, Faculty, University, and

broader community. The candidate will teach in person within a collegial environment.

The School of Social Sciences offers programs in English and French. Apart from undergraduate

programs in Criminology; Economics; Equity, Diversity and Human Rights; Gerontology;

Psychology; and Sociology; the School offers an interdisciplinary MA in Relational Studies and a PhD

in Human Studies and Interdisciplinarity.

Laurentian University, located on Atikameksheng Anishnawbek territory in Sudbury, Ontario,
