About the job
In this role, you will:
- Lead science and strategic planning initiatives
- Drive multi-year science business planning and annual ministry input
- Advise on budget strategies and align work plans with the Integrated Science Action Plan
- Ensure compliance with business reporting and best practices across the ministry
- Manage complex projects, agreements, and contracts
- Prepare briefings and correspondence for senior leadership
What you bring to the team
Industry Knowledge and Skills
You have:
- Knowledge of natural resource sciences and their application in field operations
- Familiarity with government and ministry policies, legislation, and regulations for aquatic, forest, and wildlife management
- Experience in business planning, program and policy decision-making, and approval processes
- Ability to prepare briefing notes, decks, and related communication materials
Project Planning and Coordination Skills
You have:
- Strong project planning skills to lead and coordinate multiple complex initiatives
- Ability to assess impacts, resolve issues, monitor progress, and report on outcomes
- Experience leading branch work planning processes
- Proven track record managing projects involving financial planning, procurement, capital planning, asset management, and contract management
Consultation and Negotiation Skills
You have:
- Proven consultation skills to advise on research investments with researchers, senior managers, directors, and ministry clients
- Strong interpersonal ability to liaise and collaborate with ministry scientists, research organizations, and university professionals
Team Leadership Skills
You have:
- Proven ability to lead and coordinate project teams and working groups
- Ability to provide guidance on business-related activities
- Ability to establish priorities within a strong network of managers
