Building Official – Level 2

BASIS: FULL TIME, 2 YEAR TERM UNTIL SEPTEMBER 2027 | CLOSING DATE: SEPTEMBER 26, 2025 AT 9:00AM

The Building Official – Level 2 is responsible for the review, approval, and processing of building and plumbing applications, including inspections, calculating Permit Fees, and coordinating inter- departmental or external agency review of Building Permits, as appropriate.

Key Responsibilities
Reporting to the Manager of Planning, Development & Sustainability, the Building Official – Level 2 reviews and issues building, sign, and plumbing permits in compliance with applicable regulations such as the City’s Zoning Bylaw, Servicing Bylaws, BC Energy Step Code, BC Building Code, and WorkSafe BC for Part 9 residential and small commercial buildings.

Qualifications
The successful candidate will have BOABC Level 2 and POABC Level 1 qualifications. They will also have a minimum of 3 years building inspection experience, a Diploma in Building or Civil Technology, and sound knowledge of residential and commercial construction methods, including BC Building and Plumbing Codes.

This position is a CUPE Local 2262 position with an attractive hourly rate of $50.39 (September 1, 2025 Rate) for the successful applicant who meets the qualification requirements, plus a comprehensive benefits package.
