The RoleThe Assistant Project Manager (APM) plays a critical role in driving the successful delivery of large-scale construction projects. Working under the guidance of a Project Manager, the APM takes on an expanded scope beyond traditional project coordination while actively contributing to project planning, execution, and overall performance. This role supports the management of complex construction activities while ensuring seamless coordination, strong contract administration, and alignment across all stakeholders. Ideal for a candidate who has several years of Project Coordinator experience and is ready to take the next step towards becoming a Project Manager.**Key Responsibilities:**Project Coordination & Quality Control

  • Assisting Project Managers and Superintendents with onsite quality control and ensuring compliance with project specifications, codes, and safety regulations
  • Fostering strong relationships with clients, consultants, architects, and subcontractors
  • Conducting site visits and supporting shipping, receiving, and material management

Project Management Support

  • Assisting in preparing progress claims, purchase orders, change orders, cost forecasting, and subcontractor payments
  • Monitoring project costs, schedule updates, and proactively identify risks
  • Supporting project documentation, closeout, and warranty processes

Planning & Documentation

  • Managing RFIs, submittals, shop drawings, digital plans, and deficiencies
  • Ensuring work aligns with the latest drawings, specifications, and LEED requirements
  • Participating in pre-pour meetings, testing review, and procurement tracking

Contract Administration

  • Understanding and supporting compliance with contract obligations, insurance, bonding, and labour agreements
  • Mitigating delays and support claims management

Administrative Support

  • Setting up and managing project documentation in Procore and other systems
  • Taking meeting minutes, tracking action items, managing project directories, and assisting with safety documentation
  • Supporting permit applications, site safety start-up, and closeout documentation

Mentorship & Safety

  • Mentoring junior team members on processes and industry best practices
  • Participating in safety investigations and promote a strong safety culture

Qualifications

  • A degree or diploma in Engineering, CET certification, or the equivalent

  • Minimum 5 years of construction project coordinator experience

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills

  • Capacity to efficiently prioritize and work under tight deadlines

  • Experience with Microsoft Office Suite, Procore, project management and scheduling software
