As a member of the Calgary Police Service (CPS) Senior Leadership Team you will be expected to foster an inclusive leadership approach that promotes psychological and physical safety. As a strategic decision-maker, you will possess political acumen and have experience in leading transformational change and enabling innovation.
The CPS Wellness and Resiliency Division (the Division) is comprised of teams of dedicated and passionate professionals tasked with supporting the overall health and wellness of CPS members, including Psychological Therapies Section, Reintegration Section an early intervention program, a peer support program and other wellness programming. The Division supports our members and their families through experiences of trauma, challenges to their mental health, and addictions. As the Executive Director you will be responsible for leading the Division, including business optimization and innovation, and overall organizational direction, and delivering its programs and services to members.
You will establish and steward the strategic planning for the Division. Your focus will be on organizational direction and continuous improvement, implementing audit recommendations, and facilitating reporting for the Executive Leadership Team (ELT) and Calgary Police Commission (CPC). You will also ensure the mandates of all the Units within the Division are aligned with each other as well as the greater organizational strategy and direction. Additional responsibilities include:
- Facilitate wellness advocacy on a systems level to ensure policies are reflective of the National Standard of Psychological Safety.
- Collaborate with CPS Executives, Senior Leaders, external agencies, and the Calgary Police Commission to ensure the programming (both new and existing) of the division is relevant, impactful, and adding value for members.
- Develop and maintain partnerships with a large network of external service provider that support the daily functions of the Division.
- Develop administrative and operational policies and procedures that guide day-to-day activities.
Qualifications
- A degree in Health Sciences or a related field and at least 10 years of progressively senior and diverse leadership experience; including at least 5 years at a senior or executive leadership level.
- A credentialed health professional regulated under the Health Professions Act of Alberta would be considered an asset.
- Success in this role requires proven leadership skills, the ability to manage resources, strong planning and prioritizing/visionary skills, and strategic thinking skills.
- You have a strong background in the areas of mental health and employee wellness.
- Strategic planning, implementation, and project management/sponsorship experience is required.
- You have experience working with multi-disciplinary teams, providing direction and supervision on complex issues.
- Experience working in a unionized environment, public sector, and/or law enforcement/paramilitary environment would be considered an asset.
- Experience with in-house delivery of health services and/or health education that demonstrates an understanding and commitment to evidence-based, clinical best practices would be considered an asset.
- You are responsive and service-oriented with sound judgment with proven decision-making skills.
- You have exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to immediately establish credibility, and influence change.
- Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be considered.
Pre-employment Requirements
- An enhanced Security Clearance will be conducted.
- Successful applicants must provide proof of qualifications. Education obtained from out of country must have or be able to obtain, an Education Credential Assessment (ECA) for confirmation of equivalent credentials.

Compensation: Level M4 $187,800 - 234,700 per annum
Days of Work: This position typically works a 5 day
work week with 1 day off in each 3 week cycle.
Hours of work: Standard 35 hour work week
