Behavior Interventionist

Temporary Full-time (1-year)
35 hours per week
JOB SUMMARY:
The successful incumbent will report to the Manager of Child and Family Development Center and work with the team to ensure inclusive childcare programming and care planning. The primary focus for the successful incumbent will be providing one-to-one Behavior Interventionist support to children with extra support needs, as well as support individual care planning and broader capacity-building for the Centre. As time permits, a secondary focus will be working alongside a team to provide quality, inclusive childcare and family support services.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Support children one-to-one who has been diagnosed or have suspected developmental delays or disabilities to participate in programming.

Assist in creating behavioral intervention plans, implement strategies and provide coaching support to ECE teachers to implement plans and strategies.

Participate in care planning for children with extra support needs, alongside the children’s family, ECE teachers and multidisciplinary care team.

Create resources and materials to support healthy child development.

Participate, collaborate and contribute to team meetings.
-
Ensure the Early Childhood Education program meets all requirements of the Child Care Licensing Regulations on a daily basis.

Adhere to the Child and Family Development Centre’s philosophy and Schedule D(&G) of the Child Care Licensing Regulation

Building a curriculum that is developmentally appropriate for children under 3 and/or children 3-5.

Prepare activity documentation to support childcare learning.
-
Cooperate with management and staff to individualize the curriculum and family services.
-
Ensure guidance of children that encourages positive self-esteem.
-
Ensure positive communications with parents/guardians.
-
Contribute to the ongoing operation of the Centre.
-
Facilitate a respectful conflict resolution process when dealing with difficult staff and parent/guardian issues.

Implement a problem-solving approach with practical solutions when faced with difficult situations.
-
Maintain a neat, orderly and clean environment in all activity and program areas.
-
Maintain confidentiality of all information related to the Centre, staff, children and their families.
-
Encourage potty training and/or change diapers when needed.
-
Supervising while children are eating and bottle feeding.
-
Ensure that children are safe at all times and recognize children who are potentially at risk and take appropriate action.

Perform other related duties as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Formal education in psychology, special education, behaviour analysis, Aboriginal Supported Child Development or related field
- Minimum 2 years of experience working with children, and love working and enjoy playing with children.
- Experience working with neurodiverse children who have special needs, complex behaviors, trauma, autism, alcohol related neurological disorders and attachment challenges.
- ECE(A) certification and License to Practice preferred (training funding could be available for successful incumbent willing to obtain ECEA certification)
- Valid First Aid Certificate or willingness to obtain one
- Previous experience working in a First Nations community and/or organization an asset.
- Successful completion of criminal record check for vulnerable populations

- Knowledge of First Nations cultures and backgrounds is an asset.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
This role can be stressful and challenging at times. The Centre can be loud and noisy at times depending on the activity or situation.
Physical demands
- While performing the duties of this job, the employee is regularly required to stand, walk; sit; reach and lift. Must be able to lift up to 15 kgs and move/react quickly to ensure the safety of children.
- Must be able to get down to the child’s level and be on the floor.
Mental Demands
- This role requires the ability to manage a number of requests and situations at one time.
Environmental Conditions
- The work environment is active and noise levels vary from quiet to loud.
- Indoor and outdoor activities.
- Risk of illness or infection from changing diapers, cleaning body fluids and performing first aid etc.
