Evergreen is seeking the support of a fractional Chief Financial Officer (CFO). This is a part-time, contract role that can be structured as an employment or consulting relationship. Key Accountabilities
- Provide business planning and analytics to advise the CEO, Finance and Audit Committee and Board of Directors on financial challenges and opportunities related to Evergreen’s operations.
- Drive continuous improvement in business development and cost management to ensure the organization meets its financial objectives.
- Drive operational effectiveness across the organization. Analyze and review every facet of the business, with a focus on internal processes, and take appropriate actions to achieve improvements and financial return.
- Lead quarterly financial reporting to the Finance and Audit Committee and Board of Directors including year-to-date financial results, updated projections, and monitoring key performance indicators for overall strategic and business performance.
- Lead monthly reporting to the executive and senior leadership team, providing updates on financial results and analysis that informs business decision-making necessary to support the organization’s financial targets.
- Support organization-wide risk assessment and management, providing ongoing reporting to the CEO, Finance and Audit Committee and Board of Directors of identified risks and mitigation strategies. Oversee Evergreen's insurance ensuring appropriate coverage is in place.
- Support the Director of Finance in providing oversight of Evergreen’s financial processes including monthly and quarterly reporting, the annual budget cycle, financial policies and procedures, internal control procedures, and maintenance of accounting records in accordance with legal and professional standards.
- Support the Director of Finance in providing oversight of cash flow management, forecasting inflows and outflows, and addressing any identified shortfalls through effective management of working capital. When possible, invest excess cash to maximize return on investment while maintaining necessary liquidity levels.
- Support the oversight, monitoring, and reporting for capital project budgets.
- May be asked to provide some support in the implementation of Evergreen's IT strategy to identify tools and systems that support business goals, employee productivity, and customer service.
What You’ll Bring
Success in this role will be supported by the following target qualifications and core competencies.
- Minimum of 7-10 years of related experience, with prior leadership experience a significant asset.
- CPA designation.
- Advanced knowledge of Excel and PowerPoint. Experience with Salesforce is an asset.
- Demonstrated financial acumen, including budgeting, forecasting, and reporting.
- Demonstrated ability to engage at an executive level, including with board members.
- An ability to think strategically, assessing and analyzing opportunities and risks based on comprehensive analysis of current and future trends and conditions in the environment.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt to changing priorities and conditions in an agile way
- Strong decision-making skills, with an ability to problem-solve and take action in a timely manner.
- Belief in the importance of leading with curiosity and welcoming ideas that can be thoughtfully considered and turned into opportunities.
- A demonstrated deep commitment to advancing reconciliation, equity, diversity and inclusion in all its forms.
- Experience working in, or supporting, a large charitable or non-profit environment is preferred.

- We are open to exploring different structures, be it employment or consulting, depending on the preference of the successful candidate.
- The target range for this role is $85 - 125/hour, dependent on experience and nature of contract (i.e. employee or contractor), to be structured in consultation with the successful candidate (i.e. monthly flat fee, hourly rate).
- This role is supervised by the CEO and has at least one (1) direct report.
- This is a hybrid role and there is no set in-office requirement, however, certain meetings and events will require in-person attendance and an ability to attend on site at Evergreen Brick Works is necessary.
- There may be occasional evening and/or weekend work, as needed.
- Work environment is a collaborative office space at Evergreen Brick Works (open concept).
