About Mount Milligan Mine
Located approximately 155 kilometres northwest of Prince George in central BC, the Mount Milligan Mine is a conventional truck-shovel open-pit copper and gold mine and concentrator with a 60,000 tpd capacity copper flotation processing plant.
Mount Milligan operates with comfortable camp accommodations equipped with private washrooms, TV, Wi-Fi, an onsite gym, and other recreational activities. Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from several locations within the region.
Mount Milligan promotes a drug and alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a zero-tolerance policy with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs on site.
About the Opportunity
We have an exciting opportunity for an Technician, Ore Control to join our Mount Milligan Mine (MTM) operations site.
This role operates on a rotation of 7 days on / 7 days off at a 12-hour daily schedule with camp accommodations provided.
The Ore Control Technician supports mine operations by collecting geological data to ensure accurate ore classification and optimal resource recovery. This is a physically demanding role that involves extensive outdoor fieldwork in all weather conditions, including sampling in active mining areas and rugged terrain. The technician must be comfortable working independently in remote environments while maintaining a strong focus on safety. Proficiency with computers and specialized software for data entry, mapping, and analysis is essential, as the role requires close collaboration with geologists and mine planners to minimize ore dilution and maximize grade control.
Your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:
Field Sampling & Monitoring
- Sample blast holes using proper methodologies, ensuring sample integrity.
- Deploy and detect blast movement monitors.
- Identify oxidized material and perform oxide mapping.
Data Management & Analysis
- Upload lab assay results into the blasthole database.
- Maintain accurate documentation of samples submitted.
- Use computers and specialized software for data entry, mapping, and analysis.
Interdepartmental Coordination
- Work closely with the laboratory department for sample drop-offs.
- Communicate with Mine Operations, Survey, and Drill & Blast teams.
- Provide support to Ore Control and Geology staff as needed.
Safety & Site Participation
- Actively support and participate in site safety and health initiatives.
- Perform physically demanding tasks in outdoor environments and all weather conditions.
General Duties
- Carry our other responsibilities related to the technician role as assigned and required.
About You
The following will be critical to successfully perform this role:
- Technical certification or relevant vocational training in mining-related field, an asset.
- Valid Class 5 Driver’s License.
- Previous experience in a mining, heavy industrial, or remote site environment.
- Practical experience in physically demanding roles and outdoor work environments.
- Experience working independently with minimal supervision.
- Proficiency with database and geology software (e.g., SQL, acQuire, Leapfrog).
- Competence using Windows OS and programs such as Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Ability to quickly learn new software.
- Capable of operating a 4-wheel drive truck in rugged terrain.
- Uploading lab assay results and managing sample documentation.
- Strong work ethic and commitment to safety.
- Effective verbal communication and ability to learn quickly.
- Professional presence and ability to collaborate across departments.
- High situational awareness and integrity in task execution.
- Ability to follow directions and work independently.
Working Conditions
- Work involves a camp-based role at the Mount Milligan Mine site with a set work schedule on a 7x7, 12 hours per day
- Candidates must be able to maintain high levels of performance for extended shifts, up to 12 hours in duration
- Occasional exposure to hazardous environments with the requirement of wearing Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
- Mount Milligan is a safety-sensitive environment and promotes a drug & alcohol-free workplace and has adopted a ZERO – TOLERANCE policy, with respect to alcohol or unauthorized drugs/paraphernalia on site
- Bus transportation to and from site is provided free of charge from Prince George, Fort St. James and Mackenzie
