Position Summary

A survey by the National Alliance on Mental Illness (as summarized by the National Society of High School Scholars, 2023) found that 64% of college dropouts cited a mental health–related reason for leaving1. In a 2024 survey of 817 college students, over half (51%) reported skipping class due to mental health struggles, about one in three had failed a test, 29% had failed a class, and 26% had taken a leave of absence2.

The Associate Director of Student Wellness and Support serve as a key member of the Daniels College of Business Student Success Center team, supporting holistic student development, wellness, and belonging. This position integrates wellness initiatives, proactive case management, and community-building programming to foster a culture of care and connectedness among undergraduate and graduate business students.

The Associate Director plays a vital role in student case management—supporting students of concern, collaborating on SOS (Students of Concern) cases, and serving as a point of contact for students navigating academic, emotional, or personal challenges. Through wellness education and inclusive engagement, this role strengthens student retention, success, and overall well-being at Daniels.

Essential Functions

Student Support and Case Management 

  • Serve as a case manager for Daniels students referred through SOS, faculty alerts, or other concern pathways including academic advisors and career coaches.
  • Provide compassionate, confidential support and connect students to appropriate campus and community resources.
  • Collaborate with the Executive Director of Student Success, DU’s Office of Student Rights & Responsibilities, and Counseling
  • Services to address student well-being and crisis intervention.
  • Maintain accurate records, track follow-up, and ensure timely communication regarding student support cases.
  • Foster and collaborate with the University of Denver SOS office to maintain the highest level of support for student wellness and retention.

Wellness Programming and Education

  • Design and implement wellness-based programs that promote balance, resilience, and belonging across Daniels students.
  • Coordinate micro-programming such as Wellness Wednesdays, dog therapy events, fitness or mindfulness activities, and tailgate-style community events to build connection and reduce stress.
  • Embed principals of 4D into the wellness programming and education.
  • Collaborate with Student Success team members to integrate wellness into advising, career, and experiential programming.
  • Promote healthy habits, stress management, and personal growth through workshops, campaigns, and collaborations with campus partners.

Financial Wellness Education & Micro-Programming 

  • Support students in developing foundational financial wellness skills through brief coaching conversations and resource referrals.
  • Create micro-programs and workshops that promote financial literacy—such as budgeting basics, managing unexpected expenses, or understanding financial decision-making related to internships, study-abroad, and graduation planning.
  • Collaborate with Financial Aid and campus partners to share clear, accessible information about available resources and proactive financial practices.
  • Monitor emerging financial wellness needs within the student population and recommend timely, targeted programming to strengthen overall student well-being and persistence.

Community Engagement and Student Culture 

  • Foster a sense of belonging and community through creative, inclusive student engagement opportunities.
  • Partner with student organizations, faculty, and staff to co-host events aligned with Daniels’ values of integrity, innovation, and impact.
  • Support initiatives that strengthen peer-to-peer connection and community wellness.

Administrative and Strategic Support 

  • Contribute to Student Success Center assessment and reporting efforts related to wellness, belonging, and retention.
  • Assist in developing and implementing holistic success strategies that align with Daniels’ strategic priorities.

Required Qualifications

  • Master’s degree in Social Work, Counseling, Higher Education, or related field.
  • Understanding of the high stress dynamic within a higher education system.
  • Experience in student support, case management, or wellness programming in a university or human services setting.
  • Strong interpersonal and crisis management skills; ability to navigate sensitive situations with discretion and empathy.
  • Demonstrated commitment to diversity, equity, inclusion, and student-centered service.
  • Will follow University regulations and be trained in FERPA to exhibit Daniel’s standards for ethics and integrity.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Licensed Social Worker (LSW) or eligibility for licensure.
  • Experience with student success initiatives in a business school or similar professional academic environment.
  • Knowledge of wellness education frameworks and trauma-informed support practices.

Working Environment

  • Standard office environment.
  • Unexpected interruptions occur often and stress level is moderate to high.
  • Noise level is quiet to moderate.
  • This position is based on campus within the Daniels College of Business Student Success Center and engages daily with students, faculty, and staff. Occasional evening or weekend work is required to support wellness events and community engagement programs.

Physical Activities

  • Ability to work in front of a computer for extended periods of time.
  • Occasionally required to move about the office/campus.

Work Schedule Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. - 4:30 p.m.

Salary Grade Number: The salary grade for the position is 10.

Salary Range: The salary range for this position is $64,000-$74,000

The University of Denver has provided a compensation range that represents its good faith estimate of what the University may pay for the position at the time of posting. The salary offered to the selected candidate will be determined based on factors such as the qualifications of the selected candidate, departmental budget availability, internal salary equity considerations, and available market information, but not based on a candidate’s sex or any other protected status.
