Forest Protection Limited (FPL) invites applications for the Operations Support position to offer technical support across various departments. This position provides a unique opportunity to work with a dedicated team, supporting our field operations, research, aerial treatment programs, and wildfire response. Technicians may be deployed to various locations in New Brunswick, Nova Scotia, and Newfoundland for assignments up to 6 weeks in duration.

JOB DESCRIPTION

  • Assist with the safe and efficient loading of air tanker aircraft for wildfire suppression and treatment programs.

  • Support fire response operations and adhere to alert levels as directed by the Wildfire Management Branch

  • Maintain readiness for emergency fire response on high-risk days

  • Assist with setup and takedown of aircraft loading systems and equipment and cleaning of aircraft after missions

  • Record, enter, and validate data in line with FPL’s standards

  • Operate small equipment such as pumps and generators around aircraft

  • Support aerial mission planning by preparing mission sheets, itineraries, and data files for pilots

  • Set up and maintain fire loading equipment, including pumps, hoses, valves, and generators

  • Navigate woods roads with GPS or navigational tools and conduct site assessments, treatment block signage, identification, and site preparation

  • Work with proprietary and ArcGIS-based software to create map series and mission plans

  • Perform other tasks as assigned

DESIRABLE SKILLS & ATTRIBUTES

  • Special consideration for students in forestry, aviation, survey/GIS, biosciences, or related fields
  • Familiarity with, forestry, aviation, or environmental sciences
  • Willingness to obtain a pesticide license (FPL will provide training as needed)
  • Knowledge or experience with small equipment (gas-powered pumps, generators, etc.)
  • Bilingualism (English and French)
  • Experience with GIS software, data processing, and ArcGIS Online/Pro

OPERATIONAL REQUIREMENTS

  • Must possess a valid Class 5 driver’s license (or equivalent within NB)
  • Legally entitled to work in Canada, with the ability to obtain a security clearance and criminal record check
  • Provide a drivers abstract
  • Functional written and verbal communication in English
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and general computer skills
  • Ability to provide CSA-approved safety footwear (other safety gear provided by FPL)
  • Comfortable working in remote locations for extended periods with limited or no cellular reception
  • Flexibility with work arrangements on low fire hazard days
