Job Description:
We currently have an opening for a Construction Technician - Civil Engineering, servicing our projects out of the Greater Toronto and Hamilton Area (GTHA) and Greater Niagara Area. This is a permanent full-time position. You will join the dynamic Water Division, who are active on multi-discipline design and construction projects for a variety of public and private sector clients. This position will provide you with opportunities for advancement and career growth. Working with a dynamic, talented team in a collaborative work environment, you will collaborate with Teams in our Ontario offices. You will be responsible for providing on-site representation and construction services for multi-discipline construction projects in the water and wastewater sector.

- Number of Positions available: 1
- Term of Employment: Permanent, Full-Time (40 hours per week – Overtime Available)
- Location: Markham, Ontario
- Wage: $36.00 - $38.00 per Hour
- Language Requirements: English
Responsibilities include the following:
- Overseeing the construction of various engineering projects.
- Prepare construction specifications, cost and material estimates, project schedules and reports.
- Engaging in daily contract administration duties as well as site inspection duties to monitor Contractor progress, workmanship, and conformance with the contract documents.
- Assist in developing engineering specifications and drawings.
- Assist in the bidding process of projects.
- Communicating regularly via progress reports with the Associated Engineering, Client and Contractor project teams
- Serving as Associated Engineering’s Representative in communicating with the public and other stakeholders through the duration of the construction contract
- Engaging in a collaborative work environment with your team, as well as other disciplines and offices.
- Complying with and working within COR certified environment and performing all duties in accordance with those specified under the Ontario Occupational Health & Safety Act and applicable legislation.

Job Requirements:
- Diploma in Construction Engineering Technology / Construction Management or equivalent field from an accredited college (an undergraduate degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited post-secondary institution is an asset).
- 5+ years of progressive experience in a construction role with a minimum of 1 year experience in water/wastewater treatment facility
- Experience with contract administration and on-site inspection principles, practices, and techniques with a minimum of 1 year of experience in lump-sum-type contracts.
- Familiarity with applicable local building/construction codes.
- Knowledge of construction contract interpretation and the Ontario Construction Act.
- Experience with monitoring and coordinating activities on a construction project, including liaising with the Client, Contractors, Approvals Officers, and Public as required.
- Experience with preparing various contract administration paperwork, including agendas, minutes, daily logs, photographic records, request for information, testing reports, change orders, deficiency lists, construction certificates.
- Experience with project scheduling computer software in assessing construction progress compared to tendered schedule.
- Experience with the tendering/bidding process.
- Inspection and conformance of construction works with contract documents and engineering design.
- Experience with interpretation of specifications, plans, and regulations.
- Experience with preparing engineering sketches, technical specifications, quantity take-offs, and cost estimation.
- Experience with start-up and commissioning of mechanical systems, as well as post-construction warranty services as part of the commissioning team.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations for Construction Projects.
- Experience with the latest version of AutoCAD, Primavera, or Microsoft Project schedule software.
- Demonstrated leadership skills and a collaborative approach to work as a team member to provide solutions to construction issues.
- Proven personal organizational, planning, and time management skills.
- Valid driver’s license and use of a personal vehicle for company purposes are required.
- Registration with OACETT (as a Certified Engineering Technician or Technologist) is an asset.
