Under the supervision of the Manager of Teacher Education Programs, the instructor will be responsible for developing, delivering, and evaluating courses within the Nunavut Teacher Education Program (NTEP). Offered in collaboration with the Faculty of Education at Memorial University in Newfoundland, this program aims to graduate culturally competent and bilingual teachers. The instructor will deliver subject content and effective teaching methodologies within their areas of expertise.

Responsibilities include developing, delivering, and assessing courses and programs for students enrolled in the College’s Teacher Education Program, as assigned by the Manager. Program delivery may take place at Nunatta campus, other Nunavut Arctic College campuses, or various field locations across Nunavut. The program aims to graduate culturally competent and bilingual Inuktut-English teachers, and faculty proficiency in both Inuktut and English is preferred where possible.

The Ideal Candidate Will Have

• A Bachelor of Education or an undergraduate degree in a relevant field, plus a Master of Education or a Master’s/Doctoral degree in a related discipline.
• A minimum of five (5) years of teaching experience, including at least three (3) years teaching K-12 students.
• Experience with online instruction and digital learning platforms.
• Instructional experience in adult education or teacher education (an asset).
• Proficiency in more than one of Nunavut’s official languages (an asset).

Candidates with education and experience in the following areas are preferred:

Arts and Music Education, Assessment in Education, Curriculum and Instruction, Educational Administration, Educational Psychology, Educational Research, English, Environmental Education, Indigenous Education, Indigenous History, Inuit Art, Language and Literacy Education, Language Arts, Math Education, Mathematics, Online and Distance teaching and learning, Physical Education, Psychology, Science Education, Social Justice Education, Social Studies, Sociology, Special Education, STEM Education, and Theory and Practice in Elementary Education.

As this is a term position for non-Inuit candidates, current indeterminate Government of Nunavut employees may be offered a competitive transfer assignment for the duration of the term if they are deemed to be the successful candidate, however this is subject to managerial approval.

Short-listed candidates may undergo a vulnerable sector check as necessitated by the demographics of the learners participating in the program.

An acceptable combination of education and experience may be considered.
