How You Will Make an Impact
Emmanuel House Hospice is a ten-bed palliative care facility located in Hamilton that offers a home-like environment for individuals who are nearing the end of their lives. Support and care are provided in a team-based approach, including various interdisciplinary team members such as personal support workers, nursing, physicians, spiritual and psychosocial support. We embrace a person centered and holistic model of care and the importance of providing individuals dignity at the end of their life.
What You'll Bring to Our Team
- Graduate of an accredited school of nursing and registered in good standing with the College of Nurses of Ontario required
- BCLS certificate required or willing to obtain upon hire
- Experience working with individuals and their families in the end of life or with a life limiting illness
- Strong clinical assessment skills and the ability to work with evidence-based practices related to pain and symptom management and end of life care are required
- Previous palliative care experience either in hospital based palliative care, hospice or other healthcare settings with knowledge of the death/dying process
- Ability to lead and work collaboratively as a member of an intradisciplinary team
- Enhanced Fundamentals of Palliative Care is an asset (completed or actively pursuing) an asset
- Resourceful problem-solver with strong communication and interpersonal skills, excellent time management and ability to perform assigned duties with attention to detail
- Demonstrated commitment to professional continuing education
- Excellent attendance record required
- Committed to anti-racist/anti-oppressive practice and to the mission and values of Good Shepherd
- Knowledge of harm reduction approaches to care
- Fluency in a language in addition to English is an asset
- Observe all health and safety rules and work in compliance with the provisions of the occupational Health and Safety Act and its regulations.
